The largest Armenian church in Dersim is on the verge of collapse

The church, characterized by its stone architecture, arched entrance, and wall carvings, is considered one of the most important witnesses to Dersim’s multicultural past. However, the structure has not been renovated for many years and is continuously damaged both by natural conditions and by illegal activities of treasure hunters.

Քարաշէն ճարտարապետութեամբ, կամարակապ մուտքով եւ պատերու քանդակազարդերով յատկանշուող եկեղեցին Տէրսիմի բազմամշակութային անցեալի կարեւորագոյն վկաներէն մէկը կը նկատուի։ Սակայն կառոյցը երկար տարիներէ ի վեր չէ վերանորոգուած եւ շարունակաբար կը վնասուի թէ՛ բնական պայմաններու եւ թէ գանձախոյզներու ապօրինի գործողութիւններուն հետեւանքով։

Some of the church’s stones have been damaged or stolen, while various inscriptions are recorded on the remaining walls. Despite the fact that in 2012 the Erzurum Cultural Heritage Preservation Council accepted the application of the Tunceli Provincial Culture and Tourism Department regarding the need to preserve the church, no restoration or conservation work has been carried out to date.

Եկեղեցւոյ քարերէն մաս մը վնասուած կամ գողցուած է, մինչ մնացեալ պատերուն վրայ զանազան գրութիւններ արձանագրուած են։ Հակառակ անոր, որ 2012-ին Էրզրումի մշակութային ժառանգութեան պահպանութեան խորհուրդը ընդունած էր Թունճելիի նահանգային մշակոյթի եւ զբօսաշրջութեան վարչութեան դիմումը՝ եկեղեցւոյ պահպանութեան անհրաժեշտութեան վերաբերեալ, մինչեւ այսօր վերականգնման կամ պահպանութեան որեւէ աշխատանք չէ կատարուած։

According to the Kurdish news agency “Rutau”, the villagers are demanding that the Armenian church be restored and turned into an important center of faith and cultural tourism.

Քրտական «Ռուտաու» լրատուամիջոցին համաձայն՝ գիւղի բնակիչները կը պահանջեն, որ հայկական եկեղեցին վերականգնուի եւ վերածուի հաւատքի ու մշակութային զբօսաշրջութեան կարեւոր կեդրոնի։

Villager Hayri Yildiz, criticizing the indifference of state bodies, noted that the villagers are ready to protect the historical structure in their own way.

Գիւղի բնակիչ Հայրի Եըլտըզ, քննադատելով պետական մարմիններու անտարբերութիւնը, նշած է, որ գիւղացիները պատրաստ են իրենց կարգին պաշտպանելու պատմական կառոյցը։

Another resident, Mehmet Oghuz, stressed that historical and religious values must be preserved, otherwise they will be permanently lost.

Մէկ այլ բնակիչ՝ Մեհմէտ Օղուզ, շեշտած է, որ պատմական եւ կրօնական արժէքները պէտք է պահպանուին, այլապէս անոնք վերջնականապէս պիտի կորսուին։

Erkan Monastery, built in 975, is considered the largest Armenian church in Dersim. Armenian inscriptions have been preserved on the inner walls of the building to this day.

975 թուականին կառուցուած Էրկանի վանքը կը նկատուի Դերսիմի հայկական մեծագոյն եկեղեցին։ Կառոյցի ներքին պատերուն վրայ մինչեւ այսօր պահպանուած են հայատառ արձանագրութիւններ։

According to historical evidence, during the years of the Armenian Genocide, the last priest of Erkan was burned alive in the same church. The Church of the Holy Resurrection has ceased to function since 1915.

Պատմական վկայութիւններու համաձայն՝ Հայոց ցեղասպանութեան տարիներուն Էրկանի վերջին քահանան ողջակիզուած է նոյն եկեղեցւոյ մէջ։ Սուրբ Յարութիւն եկեղեցին 1915-էն ի վեր դադրած է գործելէ։
