Elizabeth Chouldjian, representative of the Armenian National Committee of America (ANCA), participated in the Pan-Armenian Conference of Armenian Cause Committees and Offices in Yerevan. The conference brought together representatives from approximately 20 countries to coordinate actions and analyze the main challenges facing Armenia and the Armenian people.
During her address, Chouldjian spoke about the work of Armenian Cause organizations in various countries and the need to maintain their own international presence in defense of Armenian interests.
“For 135 years, the Armenian Cause Committees were the Armenian people’s second army. But today, we are also compelled to act as a kind of Foreign Ministry for the Armenian nation,” she stated.
Chouldjian noted that this task is carried out through political and civic action in countries where organized diaspora structures exist. “We carry out this task by creating political and geopolitical realities in the countries where we operate, defending pan-Armenian interests, and using our capacity for international action in support of true Armenian interests, with the aim of protecting them and guaranteeing the conditions necessary for our survival,” he stated.
Chouldjian emphasized the importance of Armenia’s foreign policy, but also the role of diaspora organizations. “We are fully aware of the importance of the Armenian state’s foreign policy. But we also know the weight of our political and civic activities in the Diaspora, and that only by joining forces can we guarantee our true survival,” he asserted.
Chouldjian maintained that the Armenian Cause Offices are prepared to cooperate with Yerevan, but also to act independently. “We have always been willing to cooperate with Yerevan to advance issues that concern us. But we have never hesitated to act independently and decisively when it comes to defending our fundamental Armenian interests, our survival, the strengthening of the Armenian state, and the strengthening of the Diaspora as a whole,” he noted.
“Our work today, whether in the United States, Europe, Australia, Canada, South America, or anywhere else in the world, has a single objective: to guarantee the survival of the Armenian nation, ensure respect for our rights, strengthen the Armenian state, and strengthen the Diaspora,” he added.
The meeting was convened by the Bureau of the Armenian Revolutionary Federation (ARF-Dashnaktsutyun). Among the topics discussed were the situation in Artsakh, the right of return for displaced Armenians, the release of Armenians detained in Azerbaijan, the preservation of Armenian cultural heritage, and Armenia’s foreign policy challenges.
Among the South American participants were Mario Nalpatian, a member of the Armenian National Committee of the World and vice president of the Socialist International; Aram Mouratian, director of the Armenian National Committee of South America; and Anaclara Davidian, a member of the Armenian Cause Council of Uruguay.
“With the support of our people, our will remains unwavering and our effort, unstoppable,” Chouldjian concluded.
