A fire has broken out at the Delisi Business Centre in Tbilisi, which houses Georgian broadcaster Formula TV , forcing the television station to suspend broadcasting. The cause of the fire is currently unknown. Irakli Kiknavelidze, host of Formula ’s Day programme, interrupted a live broadcast due to the fire. ‘We are in an emergency situation. There is smoke in our building’, Kiknavelidze said. Formula TV employees have reported that the fire broke out on the building’s fourth and fifth floors. Formula TV is located on the building’s 17th and 18th floors. The broadcaster’s employees have so far been unable to leave the building because of heavy smoke in the stairwells. Journalist and presenter Nino Zhizhilashvili also appealed to emergency services for assistance, saying that some members of the team could not get out due to the smoke. ‘We have suspended broadcasting. Some members of our team are unable to get out because of the smoke’, Zhizhilashvili wrote on Facebook, tagging Georgia’s emergency services and 112. The Emergency Management Service told OC Media that firefighting and evacuation operations were underway. The agency declined to provide further details at this stage.
