Nune Balayan, a member of the Parliament of the Republic of Western Armenia, has raised concerns about Yerevan’s environmental problems, particularly the Nubarashen landfill and pollution in public parks. She recalled that Erebuni was founded in 782 BC, highlighting the Armenian people’s rich urban-planning and cultural heritage. According to her, the capital’s historical significance makes it all the more important to care for the environment and residents’ health. Balayan said that the foul smell spreading from the Nubarashen landfill and air pollution are especially concerning for children’s health. She proposed introducing a waste-recycling system to turn waste from an environmental threat into a useful resource. The parliamentarian also addressed pollution in parks and children’s playgrounds, proposing the creation of designated areas for walking dogs and ensuring that they are kept clean. Nune Balayan called on the responsible authorities to take practical steps to protect public health, preserve nature, and provide children with a clean and safe environment.
