Recently, the Turkish press published reports about the progress of restoration work on the Ani Bridge. However, this initiative raises questions about the preservation of historical and cultural heritage, the authority over it, and the relevant permits. Any intervention in Armenian historical and cultural heritage located in the occupied territory of Western Armenia should be considered not only as restoration work, but also as an issue concerning the preservation of historical identity and heritage. According to the position of the Government of Western Armenia, restoration or alteration work on Armenian heritage should not be carried out without an appropriate legal basis and due consideration of the rights of the Armenian side. The restoration of the Ani Bridge also requires transparency, accountability, and the preservation of the authenticity of Armenian heritage. The preservation of historical monuments should not become a means of distorting their historical affiliation or undermining their identity. Protecting Armenian cultural heritage requires respect for history, law, and the inalienable rights of the Armenian people.
