The 39-year-old Armenian woman, currently hospitalized in Yerevan, said that upon returning home, she saw a man pointing a gun at her children. She remembers the Azerbaijani man firing three shots. The first missed; the second time, as he tried to shoot her son, she was holding the rifle. As a result of this shooting, Ani Avetisyan lost the thumb on her left hand, and her other fingers were severely injured.
Despite this, Ani, wounded in the hand, began stabbing the Azerbaijani soldier. She says that if she hadn’t defended herself, she and her children could have been killed. The third shot had struck Ani in the leg.
“He didn’t say a word”: the woman didn’t understand who she was dealing with. Ani Avetisyan, for her part, explains that she hadn't even realized the intruder was Azerbaijani; she didn't scream during the entire fight.
Because of her injuries, the woman is furious that law enforcement didn't warn residents they were looking for an Azerbaijani soldier who had crossed the border at Syunik in southeastern Armenia.

According to Armenia's National Security Service, Baku informed Armenian authorities of the presence of this soldier, who had deserted his unit and reportedly entered Armenia on September 29. Nasimi Musayev was neutralized on October 1, two days after Baku's warning.

Ani Avetisyan also lamented that the police, despite her call, arrived at the scene after she had already been called. According to her, the Sisian police station is closer to Shaki than the hotel from which she returned.
“If they knew since the 29th of the month that an Azerbaijani woman had arrived, how could they not have rushed to the scene immediately after calling the police?” Ani Avetisyan asked.
Earlier, Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan had described the incident in Shaki as a “minor offense” and criticized Avetisyan for not waiting for the police.
