Baku announces that no match was found between the DNA profiles and remains of 50 missing Armenians submitted by the Republic of Armenia this year

Since February 2025, the state commission has established direct contacts with the corresponding commission of Armenia, held meetings and exchanged information.

According to Azerbaijani media reports, this was announced by the head of the State Security Service of Azerbaijan (SSB), Colonel General Ali Nagiyev, at the IV International Conference held in Azerbaijan, which was organized within the framework of the Baku Dialogue on Missing Persons.

Since February 2025, the state commission has established direct contacts with the corresponding commission of Armenia, held meetings and exchanged information.

According to Azerbaijani media, this was stated by the head of the State Security Service of Azerbaijan (SSB), Colonel General Ali Nagiyev, at the IV International Conference held in Azerbaijan, organized within the framework of the Baku Dialogue on Missing Persons.

The head of the SSB stated that, based on various sources and witness testimonies, a list of 834 Azerbaijani citizens captured and taken hostage during the First Karabakh War, as well as those hidden from international organizations, was transferred to the Armenian side, including detailed information on 104 individuals.

“We have also provided information on 54 of our citizens officially registered with the International Committee of the Red Cross.

The bodies of 17 of them have been returned.

The bodies of 33 individuals, who reportedly died in detention centers, have not been returned, and the fate of 4 individuals is unknown.

These families are still waiting for an answer,” he said.

Nagiyev also noted that they offered to provide relevant DNA samples for the purpose of identifying the remains found in the territories of Artsakh and allegedly belonging to Armenian servicemen.

“Expert examinations did not find any matches between the DNA profiles of 50 Armenians who were reported missing, submitted by Armenia in January 2026, and the remains found.

We are ready to cooperate in order to clarify the fates of the missing persons from both sides.

However, accurate and complete information is necessary to achieve a result.

Armenia must provide all information on the fate of missing Azerbaijanis, the places of mass and individual burials, ensure the opening of archives and create conditions for collecting witness testimonies.

This, in addition to being a legal obligation and humanitarian responsibility, would become a practical expression of the commitment to peace.

Information regarding human destinies should not become the subject of political conditions,” he said.
