HONESTNESS AS A PATH TO SPIRITUAL AND HUMAN ENHANCEMENT

This exhortation and admonition from the Apostle Peter comes to each of us today once again to sound an alarm, to call for vigilance, to call for unity, and to subject ourselves to self-examination, laying aside all the evil habits that we use to deceive people.

This message of the Apostle is not simply a moral exhortation, but has a profound diagnosis of the human soul and social ills.

1): Պետրոս առաքեալի կողմէ բխած այս յորդորն ու խրատականը այսօր դարձեալ կու գան մեզմէ իւրաքանչիւրին ականջին ահազանգ մը հնչեցնելու, զգաստութեան հրաւիրելու, միասնութեան կոչնակը զարնելու եւ մեր անձերը վերատեսութեան ենթարկելու՝ մէկդի ձգելով բոլոր այն չար սովորութիւնները, որոնք ի գործ կը դնենք մարդիկը խաբելու համար: Առաքեալին այս պատգամը պարզապէս բարոյական խրատ մը չէ, այլ ունի խորունկ ախտաճանաչում մը՝ մարդկային հոգիին եւ հասարակական հիւանդութիւններուն: Այս խօսքերը, թէեւ գրուած են 2000 եւ աւելի տարիներ առաջ, այսօր դարձեալ կը հնչեն այժմէական աշխարհի մը մէջ, ուր անհատապաշտութիւնը, կեղծիքը, նախանձն ու ուրիշը ստորնացնելը աւելի զգալի եւ շօշափելի դարձած են, քան որեւէ այլ բարիք: Մարդկային ընկերութեան ամենաողբերգական պատկերներէն մէկը եղած է սեփական «ես»-ի բարձրացման մոլուցքը՝ ուրիշին հաշուոյն: Երբ մարդուս ներաշխարհը կը գերիշխուի նախանձով, դիմացինին յաջողութիւնն ու բարօրութիւնը կը դառնան անհանգստութեան աղբիւր: Նախանձը կը ծնի նենգութիւն, իսկ նենգութիւնը՝ կեղծաւորութիւն: Ուրիշը ոտնահարելով բարձրանալու փորձը ինքնախաբէութիւն է: Խտրականութեամբ վարուիլը եւ մեր «ես»-ը ուրիշներէն վեր դասելը ոչ թէ դիմացինը կը նուաստացնէ, այլ մեզ՝ Աստուծոյ դիմաց: Խտրականութիւնը կը ծնի այն ատեն, երբ կը սկսինք մարդոց միջեւ դասակարգում կատարել՝ ըստ անոնց դիրքին, կարողութեան եւ ծագման, պատճառ դառնալով թէ՛ անոնց եւ թէ՛ մեր անձերուն նսեմացման: Ցաւալի իրականութիւն է, որ հայկական շրջանակներու մէջ ալ նման երեւոյթներ ընդհանրացած են՝ խտրականութիւն, կեղծաւորութիւն եւ նախանձ: Մարդիկ զիրար կ’ատեն.

These words, although written 2,000 years ago, resonate today in a contemporary world where individualism, deceit, envy, and the debasement of others have become more tangible and tangible than any other good.

փոխանակ իրարու յաջողութիւններուն խնդակից դառնալու՝ սուգ կը պահեն ու անէծքներ կ’արտասանեն: Հարց տանք մեր անձերուն.

One of the most tragic images of human society has been the obsession with exalting one’s own “self” at the expense of others.

արդեօ՞ք Յիսուս ալ նոյնը ըրաւ, խտրականութիւն դրա՞ւ մարդոց միջեւ: Յիսուս ինքը չէ՞ր, որ մաքսաւորին հետ սեղան նստաւ, պոռնիկը դարձի բերաւ, անդամալոյծը սիրեց եւ քոսոտին ձեռքէն բռնեց: Իսկ մենք ի՞նչ կ’ընենք: Քրիստոս իր վարդապետութեամբ եկաւ միութիւն եւ սէր սերմանելու ազգերու եւ ժողովուրդներու միջեւ: Արդիւ՞նքը.

When a person’s inner world is dominated by envy, the success and well-being of others become a source of anxiety.

բաժանումներ, ո՛չ միայն ազգերու միջեւ, այլ նոյնինքն նոյն ժողովուրդին մէջ: Եւ այս մոլախտին տարածման պատճառը ո՞վ է, եթէ ոչ՝ մենք: Հետեւաբար, Պետրոս առաքեալի պատգամը ամէն օր մեզի կոչ կ’ուղղէ ձերբազատելու այս բոլոր բացասական երեւոյթներէն, որովհետեւ անոնք կը քանդեն թէ՛ անհատին խաղաղութիւնը եւ թէ՛ հաւաքականութեան համերաշխութիւնը: Իսկական մեծութիւնը կը կայանայ հոն, ուր կը դադրինք մեր անձերը վեր դասելէ եւ պատերազմ կը մղենք այդ տկարութիւնները յաղթահարելու համար: Իսկական մեծութիւնը հոն է, երբ թօթափելով նախանձն ու կեղծաւորութիւնը, եւ մերժելով ամէն տեսակ խտրականութիւն՝ ճանապարհ կը բանանք առողջ, ազնիւ եւ փոխադարձ յարգանքի վրայ հիմնուած հասարակութեան մը համար: Վերջապէս, մեծութիւնը հոն է, երբ կը հասկնանք զիրար, կ’ըմբռնենք իրարու հոգերը, դժուարութիւններն ու ցաւերը, երբ կը ճանչնանք իրարու իրաւունքը, ուրախակից եւ տխրակից կ՚ըլլանք միասին եւ կը յարգենք զիրար: Ի վերջոյ, բոլորս ալ Յիսուսեան դպրոցի աշակերտներն ենք: Արմէն վրդ.

Envy breeds deceit, and deceit breeds hypocrisy.

Trying to elevate oneself by trampling on others is self-deception.

Acting in a discriminatory manner and placing our “self” above others does not degrade others, but rather ourselves before God.

Discrimination arises when we begin to classify people according to their position, ability, and origin, causing both their and our own belittlement.

It is a sad reality that similar phenomena are common in Armenian circles: discrimination, hypocrisy, and envy.

People hate each other.

Instead of rejoicing in each other’s successes, they mourn and curse.

Let us ask ourselves: did Jesus do the same, did he discriminate between people?

Wasn’t Jesus the same who sat at the table with the tax collector, converted the prostitute, loved the paralytic, and held the blind man by the hand?

And what do we do?

Christ came with his doctrine to sow unity and love among nations and peoples.

The result: divisions, not only between nations, but also within the same people.

And who is the cause of the spread of this plague, if not us?

Therefore, the message of the Apostle Peter calls us every day to free ourselves from all these negative phenomena, because they destroy both the peace of the individual and the solidarity of the collective.

True greatness is found where we stop putting ourselves above others and wage war to overcome these weaknesses.

True greatness is there when, by rejecting envy and hypocrisy, and rejecting all forms of discrimination, we pave the way for a healthy, honest and mutually respectful society.

Finally, greatness is there when we understand each other, we grasp each other's worries, difficulties and pains, when we recognize each other's rights, we share joy and sorrow together and we respect each other.

In the end, we are all students of the Jesus school.
