"Voices of Artsakh Media" Documentary Film: The Voice of Artsakh's Memory

For decades, the state media of Artsakh have been fighting an information war on a multi-front platform, in polarized geopolitical conditions, but have resisted and exposed Azerbaijani disinformation and anti-Armenian propaganda.

Արցախի պետական լրատուամիջոցները տասնամեակներէ ի վեր տեղեկատուական պատերազմի բովէն ներս պայքար մղած են բազմաճակատ հարթակի վրայ, բեւեռացուած աշխարհաքաղաքական պայմաններու մէջ, սակայն դիմակայած են ու քողազերծած ազրպէյճանական ապատեղեկատուութիւնն ու հակահայ քարոզչութիւնը:

Recently, the presentation of the documentary film “Voices of the Artsakh Media” by Ani Mangasaryan took place in Yerevan. The film presents the biographies and activities of the three state media outlets of the information field of the Republic of Artsakh: Artsakh Public Radio, “Azat Artsakh” newspaper, and Artsakh Public Television, from the days of the Artsakh liberation movement to the stage of the Armenian exodus from Artsakh. The film is directed by Hrayr Avetisyan, the cinematographer is Tigran Kasparyan, and the English translation is by Ani Mezhlumyan.

Անցնող օրերուն Երեւանի մէջ կայացաւ Անի Մանկասարեանի հեղինակած «Արցախի մետիայի ձայները» փաստավաւերագրական ժապաւէնին շնորհահանդէսը: Ժապաւէնը կը ներկայացնէ Արցախի Հանրապետութեան տեղեկատուական դաշտի պետական երեք լրատուամիջոցներու` Արցախի հանրային ռատիոյի, «Ազատ Արցախ» թերթի եւ Արցախի հանրային հեռուստատեսութեան կենսագրութիւնն ու գործունէութիւնը, Արցախի ազատագրութեան շարժման օրերէն մինչեւ Արցախի հայաթափման փուլ: Ժապաւէնին բեմադրիչն է Հրայր Աւետիսեան, նկարահանողը` Տիգրան Գասպարեան, անգլերէն թարգմանութիւնը` Անի Մեժլումեան:

As the former editor of “Horizon,” I have collaborated with Artsakh media outlets, journalists, and editors for 25 years, and during a series of episodes of this documentary, I mentally returned to a free and independent Artsakh.

Իբրեւ «Հորիզոն»-ի նախկին խմբագիր` 25 տարի համագործակցած եմ Արցախի լրատուամիջոցներու, լրագրողներու եւ խմբագիրներու հետ, ու այս վաւերագրականի շարք մը դրուագներու ընթացքին մտովի վերադարձ էր ազատ ու անկախ Արցախ:

This documentary film skillfully combines the elements of a documentary structure and the sequence of historical events.

Վաւերագրական այս ժապաւէնը հմտօրէն կը շաղկապէ փաստագրական յօրինուածքի տարրերն ու պատմական դէպքերու շարակարգութիւնը:

The film, like a balanced orchestra, is spread out in chronological order in front of the audience, where episodes of Artsakh’s modern history are interwoven, the speaking witnesses of which are the journalists from Artsakh, those journalists who did not spare their lives in the midst of the war.

Ժապաւէնը` չափակշռութաւոր համանուագի նման, ժամանակագրական կարգով, կը սփռուի հանդիսատեսին դիմաց, ուր կը տողանցեն Արցախի նորագոյն պատմութեան դրուագները, որոնց խօսուն վկաները արցախցի լրագրողներն են, ա՛յն լրագրողները, որոնք պատերազմի յորձանուտին մէջ իսկ չեն խնայած իրենց կեանքը:

In these difficult and difficult days for the Armenians of Artsakh, it is a matter of courage to conceive and direct such a documentary. That courage was shown by Ani Mangasaryan, a journalist and broadcaster from the village of Vaghuhas in Artsakh, and in this film she tells about the selflessness and dedication of her colleagues over the decades.

Արցախի հայութեան դժուարին ու դժնդակ այս օրերուն խիզախութիւն է նման վաւերագրական ժապաւէնի գաղափար յղանալն ու բեմադրելը: Այդ խիզախութիւնը ունեցած է Արցախի Վաղուհաս գիւղի զաւակ, լրագրող եւ հաղորդավար Անի Մանկասարեանը եւ այս ժապաւէնով կը պատմէ իր գործընկերներու տասնամեակներու վրայ թաւալող անձնուրացութեան ու նուիրումին մասին:

The film has a unique storytelling style. Based on interviews with journalists and editors, the structural narrative of the film is built and moments of dialogue are created. Historical memory is bridged: loss, grief and genocide.

Շարժանկարը ունի իւրայատուկ պատմելաոճ. լրագրողներու եւ խմբագիրներու հետ հարցազրոյցներու վրայ հիմնուած` կը կերտուի ժապաւէնի կառուցուածքային պատումը եւ տրամախօսութեան հաղորդակից պահեր կը ստեղծէ: Պատմական յիշողութեան կը կամրջուին` կորուստը, կսկիծն ու եղեռնագործութիւնը:

Over the years, the Artsakh media had collected a huge archive, documentary evidence, the repository of which was a source of historical evidence. The tape also tells about the fate of that archive. Part of the archive is saved through superhuman efforts, while some is forcibly burned...

Արցախի մետիան տարիներու ընթացքին հաւաքած էր վիթխարի արխիւ, փաստագրական վկայութիւններ, որոնց շտեմարանը պատմական վկայութեանց աղբիւր էր: Ժապաւէնին մէջ կը պատմուի նաեւ այդ արխիւի ճակատագրին մասին: Արխիւէն մաս մը գերմարդկային ճիգերով կը փրկուի, իսկ որոշ մաս մը հարկադրաբար կը հրկիզուի…

The tape also reflects the psychological state of an entire people subjected to forced exile and oppression, as outlined through the testimonies of journalists after the victorious struggle for survival and liberation of Artsakh. It is a testimony to the story of an Artsakh journalist who, putting aside his journalism profession, volunteered to go to the front during the Artsakh liberation battles, and when his colleague asks when he will return to the editorial office, the answer is clear and resounding, “When the war ends.”

Ժապաւէնը կ՛արտացոլացնէ նաեւ Արցախի յաղթական գոյապայքարէն ու ազատագրումէն ետք լրագրողներու վկայութիւններուն ընդմէջէն ուրուագծուող բռնագաղթի ենթարկուած ու բռնադատուած ամբողջ ժողովուրդի մը հոգեվիճակի յետագիծը: Վկայութիւնն է այն արցախցի լրագրողի պատմութեան, որ լրագրութեան մասնագիտութիւնը մէկ կողմ դրած, արցախեան ազատագրական մարտերու ընթացքին, որպէս կամաւոր կը մեկնի ռազմաճակատ, եւ երբ գործընկերը հարց կու տայ, թէ ե՞րբ պիտի վերադառնայ խմբագրատուն, պատասխանը յստակ է եւ հնչեղ, «Երբ պատերազմը աւարտի»…

Today, when the face of Artsakh’s Armenianness is being distorted and destroyed day by day, when the spiritual structures and historical and cultural monuments of the Armenians are being destroyed in the depths of Artsakh, this documentary film comes to remind us that the guardians of Artsakh’s centuries-old national face have also been Artsakh journalists. The journalists of Artsakh, faithful to their calling, have selflessly fulfilled their mission, fully fulfilling it: recording war crimes, devastation and human stories, professional analysis of the political situation, documentation of military events on the frontline hot spots.

Այսօր, երբ օր ցերեկով կ՛այլանդակուի ու եղծման կ՛ենթարկուի Արցախի հայկականութեան դիմագիծը, երբ Արցախի ընդերքին մէջ կը քանդուին հայութեան հոգեւոր կառոյցներն ու պատմամշակութային կոթողները, փաստավաւերագրական այս ժապաւէնը կու գայ յուշելու, որ Արցախի դարաւոր ազգային դիմագիծի պահապանները եղած են նաեւ արցախցի լրագրողները: Արցախի լրագրողները` հաւատարիմ իրենց կոչումին, անձնուիրութեամբ իրագործած են իրենց առաքելութիւնը, լիովին կատարած են` պատերազմական յանցագործութիւններու, աւերածութիւններու եւ մարդկային պատմութիւններու արձանագրումը, քաղաքական իրավիճակի մասնագիտական վերլուծութիւնը, առաջնագծի թէժ կէտերուն վրայ ռազմական իրադարձութիւններու փաստագրումը:

The following words were spoken about the restoration and creation from the devastated situation and the ashes of defeat by Nelson Mandela, the human rights defender, President of South Africa, who was imprisoned for 27 years: “Honor belongs to those who never give up on the truth, even when the situation seems bleak and hopeless, those who constantly, again and again try and never get discouraged by insults, humiliations and even defeat.” Artsakh Public Television has chosen that path today: not to give up on the truth and continue its mission.

Զգետնուած վիճակէն ու պարտութեան թմբիրէն վերականգնելու ու արարելու մասին հետեւեալ խօսքը ըսած է 27 տարի բանտարկուած, մարդկային իրաւանց պաշտպան, Հարաւային Ափրիկէի նախագահ Նելսըն Մանտելան. «Պատիւը կը պատկանի անոնց, որոնք երբեք չեն հրաժարիր ճշմարտութենէն, նոյնիսկ երբ իրավիճակը մռայլ ու անյուսալի կը թուի, անոնք, որոնք անընդհատ, վերստին ու վերստին կը փորձեն եւ երբեք չեն ընկճուիր վիրաւորանքներէն, նուաստացումներէն ու նոյնիսկ պարտութենէն»: Արցախի հանրային հեռուստաընկերութիւնը այսօր ընտրած է այդ ճանապարհը` չհրաժարիլ ճշմարտութենէն եւ շարունակել առաքելութիւնը:

Documentary author Ani Mangasaryan’s “Voices of the Artsakh Media” is the story of those journalist witnesses who, in the moment of despair, did not hesitate to raise the call of hope for Artsakh and compose a new song… The song of Artsakh, the song of return…
