Construction of one of Georgia's largest and most complex infrastructure projects—the 23-kilometer section of the Kvesheti-Kobi highway—has reached a key stage. The Department of Roads has published impressive footage of the construction of the arch bridge across the Khada Gorge, according to newsgeorgia.ge.

Строительство одного из самых масштабных и сложных инфраструктурных проектов Грузии — 23-километрового участка автомагистрали Квешети-Коби — вышло на ключевой этап. Департамент автомобильных дорог опубликовал впечатляющие кадры возведения арочного моста через ущелье Хада. Об этом пишет newsgeorgia.ge.

The bridge's total length exceeds 400 meters, its height above the gorge is 166 meters, and the arch span itself is 300 meters long.

Общая длина моста превышает 400 метров, высота над ущельем составляет 166 метров, а длина самого арочного пролета достигает 300 метров.

According to the department, the arch's two ends are planned to be connected by the end of October. After that, construction workers will begin installing the supports and laying the bridge span.

Как сообщили в ведомстве, своды арки с двух сторон планируется соединить уже к концу октября. После этого строители приступят к монтажу опор и укладке мостового пролета.

The Kvesheti-Kobi highway project is designed to fundamentally solve the problem of transport links on the Russian border. Its cost is 1.2 billion lari (financed by the state budget, the ADB, and the EBRD).

The new two-lane asphalt concrete road will allow drivers to bypass the most problematic section of the Mtskheta-Stepantsminda-Lars highway—the Gudauri-Kobi section. In winter, snowfalls and the threat of avalanches regularly close this route, blocking the only land artery between Georgia and Russia.

Новая двухполосная асфальтобетонная дорога позволит водителям объезжать самый проблемный участок трассы Мцхета-Степанцминда-Ларс — отрезок Гудаури-Коби. Зимой из-за снегопадов и угрозы схода лавин этот путь регулярно перекрывают, блокируя единственную сухопутную артерию между Грузией и РФ.

The highway will ensure uninterrupted and safe travel not only for international transit trucks and road travelers. It is also important for residents of a dozen villages in the Khada Gorge, which are completely cut off from the outside world in winter.

Трасса обеспечит бесперебойное и безопасное движение не только для международных транзитных фур и автопутешественников. Она важна для жителей десятка сел ущелья Хада, которые зимой полностью отрезаны от внешнего мира.

The large-scale project has been divided into several lots, with Chinese contractors working on it: China Railway Tunnel Group and China Railway 23rd Bureau Group. A total of six bridges and five tunnels are to be built on this section. Once completed, travel time between Tbilisi and Gudauri will be reduced by 30 minutes to 1 hour 30 minutes. Travel time from Tbilisi to Stepantsminda will be 1 hour 45 minutes, down from the current 2.5 hours.

Масштабный проект поделили на несколько лотов, на которых работают китайские подрядчики: China Railway Tunnel Group и China Railway 23rd Bureau Group. Всего на участке должны возвести шесть мостов и пять тоннелей. После окончания строительства время проезда по дороге между Тбилиси и Гудаури сократиться на 30 минут и составит 1 час 30 минут. От Тбилиси до Степанцминда можно будет доехать за 1 час 45 минут вместо нынешних 2,5 часа.
