Love at the top of Ararat: an Armenian marriage proposal at 5,137 meters

The couple reached the summit of the mountain, one of the most important symbols of Armenian identity, featured on the Armenian coat of arms and visible from Yerevan on clear days.

La pareja llegó a la cima de la montaña, uno de los símbolos más importantes de la identidad armenia, presente en el escudo de armas de Armenia y visible desde Ereván en días despejados.

For Armenians, Ararat represents much more than a mountain: it occupies a central place in their memory, history, and national identity. Therefore, reaching its summit is often experienced as a pilgrimage.

Para los armenios, el Ararat representa mucho más que una montaña: ocupa un lugar central en la memoria, la historia y la identidad nacional. Por eso, alcanzar su cima suele vivirse como una peregrinación.

The proposal also had a special detail: the groom shares the mountain's name. On the summit of Ararat, Ararat Yeganian knelt and asked Maria Jivilikyan to marry him, in a scene captured during the expedition.

La propuesta tuvo además un detalle particular: el novio comparte el nombre de la montaña. En la cima del Ararat, Ararat Yeganian se arrodilló y le pidió matrimonio a Maria Jivilikyan, en una escena registrada durante la expedición.
