The article Pashinyan and Macron discussed the construction of the longest tunnel was first published on the Armenian newspaper Vahan.

The construction of the Bargushaat tunnel, which is expected to be the longest in Armenia (8.6 km), was discussed by Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan at a meeting with French President Emmanuel Macron, the press service of the Cabinet of Ministers reported.
“The work on the construction of the tunnel has entered the concreting phase,” the Armenian Prime Minister announced.
The statement said that the importance of starting construction work as soon as possible was emphasized.
During the meeting, the parties also discussed regional processes. They noted the importance of consistently implementing steps aimed at strengthening peace and stability in the region.
Pashinyan stressed that further development of the peace agenda and consistent implementation of relevant agreements are key to strengthening peace in the region.
We recall that in May 2026, the Armenian government officially approved and signed a memorandum of understanding with the French consortium VINCI Construction Grands Projets and Razel-Bec for the construction of the strategically important Bargushaat Tunnel. This project is part of the North-South Highway of Armenia. The tunnel entrance is planned to be drilled near the village of Shenatag (Syunik) as part of the Sisian-Kajaran Highway.
The tunnel will be the longest in Armenia and the second longest in the region. Once the entire project is completed in the southern part of the country, the travel time from Yerevan to the Iranian border will be reduced from seven to five hours.
