YEREVAN, October 3 – Sputnik: The Trump administration has removed Syria from the list of countries to which American arms sales are prohibited.

The Associated Press reports that Damascus’s applications for weapons purchases will no longer be automatically rejected, but will be considered privately.

US Secretary of State Marco Rubio previously revoked Syria’s designation as a state sponsor of terrorism, and the US plans to reopen its embassy in Damascus, which was closed 14 years ago.

Now, only Belarus, China, Cuba, Iran, Myanmar, North Korea, and Venezuela remain on the US arms export blacklist.
