Overall inflation remained steady at 5.6%, the same as the previous month's. Georgia’s National Statistics Office announced that petrol prices had also increased by 30% year-on-year in September, with fuel prices generally contributing 2.2 percentage points to the annual inflation figure. Core inflation, which discounts changes in volatile sectors such as fuel, stood at 3.7%. Georgian economist Paata Bairakhtari told OC Media global oil prices were having an impact locally, especially as the country was not importing oil from Russia. Supply disruptions caused by America’s war on Iran, as well as recent attacks by Houthi rebels in Yemen on oil infrastructure in Saudi Arabia, have seen fuel prices surge globally. As diesel prices hit all-time highs in several countries last week, US president Donald Trump threatened to ban US exports of the fuel. On Friday, French officials said European leaders were considering releasing 100 million barrels of crude oil and diesel in response to the crisis.
