Information about the vandalism of the statue was first spread on social networks. The Azerbaijani Ambassador to Georgia, Faig Guliyev, reported that the incident occurred in the morning hours of September 21, the alleged perpetrator was detained, and the Ministry of Internal Affairs, the State Security Service and other relevant bodies are continuing investigative and procedural actions. The ambassador refrained from discussing additional details of the case, noting that the investigation has not yet been completed.

The Ministry of Internal Affairs confirmed that a foreign citizen has been arrested in connection with the damage to Aliyev’s bust.
