THE FEAST OF THE CRUCIFIXION WAS COMMEMORATED WITH GREAT REVERENCE IN DAMASCUS

The ceremony was attended by the Primate of the Armenian Diocese of Berea, His Eminence Archbishop Makar Ashkarian, the Primate of the Armenian Catholic Community of Damascus, His Eminence Archbishop Kevork Asadourian, the Patriarch of the Armenian Catholic Community, His Eminence Archbishop Kevork Tsrk. Rev. Baheyan, and the Rev. Rev. Armen Kalayjian, representative of the National Assembly of the Armenian Diocese of Berea, Harut Hayrapetyan, the board of directors of the “A. Aharonian” center, the administration and trustees of the National United Seminary, representatives of the regional and executive boards of the “Aharonian” center unions, and a large crowd of Damascus Armenians.

The ceremony was opened by the Homenetmen trumpet group with the anthem of the Republic of Armenia.

After the welcome speech, the master of ceremonies of the day, Sona Andrian-Kurdian, referred to the Feast of the Exaltation of the Holy Cross, which is the last and most important of the five tabernacle feasts of the Armenian Church and commemorates the return of Christ from captivity and the glorification of the cross, wishing that the victorious cross of Christ will protect everyone, enlighten and lead us to the true faith.

Օրուան հանդիսավար Սոնա Անտրեան- Քիւրտեան բարի գալուստի խօսքէն ետք անդրադարձաւ Խաչվերաց տօնին, որ Հայ Եկեղեցւոյ հինգ տաղաւար տօներէն վերջինն ու կարեւորագոյնն է եւ կը յիշատակէ Քրիստոսի խաչափայտի գերութենէն վերադարձը եւ փառաբանութիւնը, մաղթելով որ Քրիստոսի յաղթական խաչը պահապան ըլլայ բոլորին, լուսաւորէ եւ առաջնորդէ մեզ դէպի ճշմարիտ հաւատք:

Then, Boghos Khacharian, a representative of the board of the “A. Aharonian” center, delivered a speech, congratulating the holiday of the Exaltation of the Holy Cross and also the anniversary of the independence of the Republic of Armenia, recalling that “the independence declared on May 28, 1918 and the independence achieved on September 21, 1991 are national values that complement each other, and the Republic of Armenia created as a result of them is the guarantee of the survival and eternity of the Armenian people.”

Ապա խօսք արտասանեց “Ա. Ահարոնեան ” կեդրոնի վարչութեան ներկայացուցիչ Պօղոս Խաճարեան, որ շնորհաւորեց Խաչվերաց տօնը ու նաեւ Հայաստանի Հանրապետութեան վերանկախութեան տարեդարձը, յիշելով որ «28 Մայիս 1918-ին հռչակուած անկախութիւնը եւ 21 Սեպտեմբեր 1991-ին ձեռքբերուած վերանկախութիւնը զիրար ամբողջացնող ազգային արժէքներ են եւ անոնց արդիւնքով կերտուած Հայաստանի Հանրապետութիւնը երաշխիքն է հայ ժողովուրդի գոյատեւման եւ յաւերժութեան»։

He added: “The Diaspora has never been an end in itself, it is an inseparable part of the Armenian reality. This is how we have been brought up and will continue to bring up our future generations. We remain demanding our historical rights both in Artsakh and in Western Armenia.”

Ան աւելցուց. «Սփիւռքը երբեք ինքնանպատակ չէ եղած, ան անբաժանելի մասն է Հայ իրականութեան. Այսպէս դաստիարակուած ենք եւ կը շարունակենք դաստիարակել մեր գալիք սերունդները։ Մենք կը մնանք պահանջատէր մեր պատմական իրաւունքներուն թէ’ Արցախի, թէ’ Արեւմտեան Հայաստանի մէջ»։

Khacharian continued by saying: “Despite the alarming situation in Syria in recent years, which has resulted in the migration of many Armenians, especially the young, our organization remains strong, maintaining our schools, churches and Armenian institutions. We promise to continue our educational, cultural and service work and record new successes.”

Խաճարեան շարունակեց ըսելով. «Հակառակ Սուրիոյ վերջին տարիներու տագնապալի իրավիճակին, որուն հետեւանքով գաղթեցին բազմաթիւ հայեր եւ ի մասնաւորի երիտասարդ տարրը, այնուամենայնիւ մեր կազմակերպութիւնը կը մնայ ամուր, պահելով մեր դպրոցները, եկեղեցիներն ու հայկական հաստատութիւնները։ Կը խոստանանք շարունակել մեր կրթական, մշակութային ու ծառայողական աշխատանքները եւ արձանագրել նոր յաջողութիւններ»։

Then, His Eminence Archbishop Makar Ashkarian performed a matagh blessing and addressed his fatherly message to those present, saying: “It is a great joy for us to celebrate our church and national holidays together, especially those holidays that relate to both the patriotic meaning of our independence and the spiritual meaning of our liberation.”

Այնուհետեւ Բարեջան Առաջնորդ Գերշ. Տ. Մակար Արք. Աշգարեան կատարեց մատաղօրհնէք եւ իր հայրական պատգամը ուղղեց ներկաներուն ըսելով. «Մեզի համար մեծ ուրախութիւն է մեր եկեղեցական եւ ազգային տօները միասնաբար տօնելը եւ մանաւանդ այն տօները, որոնք կը վերաբերին թէ’ մեր անկախութեան հայրենական իմաստով եւ թէ ‘ մեր ազատագրութեան հոգեւոր իմաստով»։

The Holy Father explained to those present the historical meaning of the cross before Christianity. “On the occasion of the Feast of the Exaltation, we raise and honor the cross, because Jesus Christ, having risen from the cross, shed His innocent blood and with the shedding of His blood, saved us, restored us, restored us, healed us, liberated us and made us heirs of the kingdom of heaven. This is the symbol of the cross.”

Սրբազան հայրը ներկաներուն պարզեց խաչին պատմական իմաստը նախքան Քրիստոնէութիւն. «Վերացման տօնին առիթով մենք խաչն է որ կը բարձրացնենք եւ կը պատուենք, որովհետեւ Յիսուս Քրիստոս խաչ բարձրանալով իր անմեղ արիւնը յեղեց եւ իր արեան հեղումով մեզ փրկեց, մեզ վերականգնեց, մեզ վերանաորոգեց, մեզ բժշկեգ, մեզ ազատագրեց եւ երկնքի արքայութեան ժառանգորդ դարձուց։ Այս է խաչափայտին խորհրդանիշը»:

At the end of his speech, His Holiness Makar congratulated those present on the Feast of the Exaltation of the Cross and gave his fatherly best wishes.

Խօսքի աւարտին, Մակար սրբազան շնորհաւորեց ներկաներուն Խաչվերաց տօնը եւ իր հայրական բարեմաղթութիւնները տուաւ:

Aleppo Armenian singer Argina Sheohmelian performed with Ashugh and national songs, accompanied by Nerses Topjian on the organ. They created an enthusiastic atmosphere with their wonderful performance. The richness of the songs led those present to circle dances, in which both adults and children participated.

Աշուղական եւ ազգային երգերով հանդէս եկաւ հալէպահայ երգչուհի Արգինա Շէօհմէլեան, երգեհոնի ընկերակցութեամբ Ներսէս Թօփճեանի։ Անոնք իրենց հրաշալի կատարողութեամբ խանդավառ մթնոլորտ ստեղծեցին: Երգերու ճոխութիւնը ներկաները ուղղեց շուրջպարերու, որոնց մասնակցեցան մեծերն ու փոքրերը:

Then, Mardig Gadiglian performed national and revolutionary songs, inspiring national pride and a united spirit among the Armenians of Damascus with his exceptional performance.

Ապա, ազգային եւ յեղափոխական երգերով հանդէս եկաւ Մարտիկ Գաթըգլեան, որ իր բացառիկ կատարումով դամասկահայերուն ազգային հպարտութիւն եւ միասնական ոգի ներշնչեց։

Thus, once again, the Armenians of Damascus celebrated the traditional Exaltation of the Cross at the “Aharonian” Center, proving that it will always keep alive our Christian faith, national identity, and cultural values.

Այսպիսով, անգամ մը եւս դամասկահայութիւնը նշեց աւանդութիւն դարձած «Ահարոնեան» կեդրոնի Խաչվերաց տօնը, փաստելով, որ ան միշտ իր մէջ կենդանի պիտի պահէ մեր Քրիստոնէական հաւատքը, ազգային ինքնութիւնը եւ մշակութային արժէքները:
