For some, the TRIPP project aims to oust China and Russia from the South Caucasus

Some experts view the TRIPP project as a US attempt to oust China from the South Caucasus, arguing that the US has always sought to connect Central Asia and the South Caucasus and remove this region from Chinese influence. Iran’s ambassador to Armenia, Khalil Shirgholami, made this statement on September 17 at a conference on the regional transportation project “Trump Route for International Peace and Prosperity” (TRIPP).

“These analysts see Central Asia and the South Caucasus as a unified region, from the perspective of the economic interests of external actors. Some even link this to the competition between the US and China for access to rare earth minerals. Others believe that, in this way, the US is trying to push Russia out of the region, traditionally considered its sphere of influence,” Shirgholami emphasized.

He reiterated that Iran would not tolerate the presence of American soldiers near its borders.

The Iranian ambassador to Armenia referred to recent events and the American military bases, which he said did not constitute a foundation for peace and security in the Persian Gulf.

“At the same time, we do not see how American soldiers could be deployed under the TRIPS Agreement,” the Iranian diplomat concluded.
