Russian Security Council Deputy Secretary Aleksey Shevtsov warned Armenia against any "looter takeovers" of Russian companies.
"Such tactics will backfire on the Armenian economy, given that Russian companies have created tens of thousands of jobs in the republic and efficiently manage their assets in accordance with the law, thus contributing significantly to Armenia's GDP," Shevtsov said, according to the Russian Security Council press service.
Shevtsov noted that there are signs that Armenia's next targets of this kind could be domestic industrial and infrastructure companies.
On September 17, Russian Security Council Secretary Sergei Shoigu also addressed this issue. He stated that Armenia was carrying out a "looter takeover" of facilities located in the country where Russia has invested billions of dollars.
Shoigu recalled that while Russia had saved Armenia from economic and energy collapse in the 1990s, and that during Armenia's ten years of membership in the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU), the country's economy had almost tripled. At the same time, according to the Secretary of the Russian Security Council, Armenian authorities had opted for a policy of severing relations with Moscow and strengthening their cooperation with the West.
