Ara Abrahamyan: To preserve national dignity and pass on to our descendants an independent, strong and respected state

On September 21, Armenians around the world celebrate Independence Day of the Republic of Armenia. This inspiring event 35 years ago became the realization of the dreams of our fathers and grandfathers, and of millions of our compatriots around the world.

21 сентября армяне во всём мире отмечают День независимости Республики Армения. Это вдохновляющее событие 35 лет назад стало воплощением в реальность мечтаний наших отцов и дедов, миллионов наших соотечественников по всему миру.

Armenia gained international legal personality at the cost of incredible hardships, which our people endured with dignity.

Международная правосубъектность досталась Армении ценой неимоверных лишений, которые наш народ с достоинством пережил.

Today, we bow our heads in gratitude to the memory of those who fell for the freedom and independence of Armenia and Artsakh. Artsakh, which was taken from us by the current authorities, who use fine but empty words about peace and independence to cover up their policies—which run counter to the ideas of sovereignty and democracy.

Сегодня мы с благодарностью склоняем головы перед памятью павших за свободу и независимость Армении и Арцаха. Арцаха, который у нас отняли действующие власти, прикрывающие красивыми, но пустыми словами о мире и независимости свою – идущую вразрез с идеями суверенитета и демократии – политику.

What kind of sovereignty is Pashinyan talking about, and what exactly is he planning to celebrate with pomp today in Yerevan's main square, which still remembers all his manipulations of public opinion and the false promises he made to the people in 2018, which were fulfilled with the exact opposite effect? His defeatist policy, as a result of which Azerbaijani troops now occupy hundreds of square kilometers of sovereign Armenian territory, controlling strategic heights and highways in Tavush, Goris, Kapan, Jermuk, Sisian, and other Armenian lands? His silence in response to threats to the national security of the Republic of Armenia and its people emanating from Baku?

О каком суверенитете говорит Пашинян, и что именно он сегодня собирается с помпой отмечать на главной площади Еревана, которая ещё помнит все его манипуляции общественным сознанием и лживые обещания народу, данные в 2018-м и реализованные с точностью до наоборот? Свою пораженческую политику, в результате которой сегодня азербайджанские военные сидят на сотнях квадратных километров суверенной территории Армении, контролируя стратегические высоты и магистрали в Тавуше, Горисе, Капане, Джермуке, Сисиане и других армянских землях? Своё молчание в ответ на угрозы национальной безопасности РА и народу, звучащие из Баку?

With his policies that sow hatred and divide society, trample on historical memory, traditions, and Christian values, nullify the heroism of the fallen, and humiliate the dignity of the living, Pashinyan has essentially deprived all of us—those who sincerely love Armenia—of the opportunity to rejoice wholeheartedly on such a festive day and take pride in what is happening in our homeland.

Своей сеющей ненависть и разделительные линии в обществе политикой, попирающей историческую память, традиции и христианские ценности, обнуляющей героизм погибших и унижающей достоинство живущих, Пашинян, по сути, лишил нас всех – искренне любящих Армению, возможности в такой праздничный день радоваться от души и гордиться происходящим на нашей Родине.

The Union of Armenians of Russia, which for over a quarter of a century has played an active role in the life of Armenia, facilitating the expansion of the full spectrum of cooperation between Russia and Armenia for the sake of the existence and prosperity of the Republic of Armenia and our entire people, is today forced, in congratulating us, to speak about the problems and fateful challenges to which we have unfortunately been led not only by the policies of the current authorities but also by the long-standing silence of the Armenian elites, whose voice we have been calling upon for the past eight years.

Союз армян России, который более четверти века беспрерывно принимал самое деятельное участие в жизни Армении, содействовал расширению всего спектра взаимодействия между Россией и Арменией во имя существования и процветания Республики Армения и всего нашего народа, сегодня вынужден, поздравляя, говорить о проблемах и судьбоносных вызовах, к которым нас привела, к сожалению, не только политика нынешних властей, но и многолетнее молчание армянских элит, к голосу которых мы взываем последние восемь лет.

Congratulating everyone who loves and cares for our homeland with all their hearts and souls on Armenia's Independence Day, I express the hope that the age-old wisdom of our ancestors, the conclusions and lessons of recent years, and the recognition of the importance of sovereignty and unity will give our people the strength to overcome the current, difficult period in their history, preserve their national dignity, and pass on to our descendants a truly independent, strong, and respected state!

Поздравляя с Днём независимости Армении всех, кто всем сердцем любит и душой болеет за нашу Родину, выражаю надежду, что вековая мудрость наших предков, выводы и уроки последних лет, осознание значимости суверенитета и сплочённости даст сил нашему народу преодолеть нынешний, не лучший этап своей истории, сохранить национальное достоинство и передать нашим потомкам по настоящему независимое, сильное и пользующееся уважением государство!
