The US military has been assisting commercial vessels in transporting more than 900 million barrels of oil through the Strait of Hormuz since early May, the spokesman for the US Central Command (CENTCOM) in the Middle East, Tim Hawkins, told Al Jazeera.
He stressed that Iran does not control the Strait of Hormuz, and oil tankers continue to transit through this international waterway.
“For months, we have been assisting commercial vessels carrying various cargoes, including crude oil,” Hawkins said.
He reported that the blockade of the Strait by US forces has been very effective. According to him, they have redirected more than 100 ships that tried to violate the blockade of the Strait of Hormuz.
