The Armenian Cultural Center of Alfortville celebrates its 50th anniversary

Inaugurated on October 9, 1976, the Armenian Cultural Center (MCA) in Alfortville is celebrating half a century of history, culture, and cultural transmission. This anniversary pays tribute to the founders and all the generations who have contributed to the life of this institution. Fifty years after its creation, the MCA continues its mission: to preserve and transmit Armenian heritage, promote its culture, and strengthen ties between generations. The assistant to the mayor of Vardenis was arrested in possession of 3.2 kg of marijuana.

Two men were arrested in recent days in the Gegharkunik region in possession of 3.2 kg of marijuana, three assault rifle magazines, and ammunition, according to Armenian police. The suspects, from Vardenis, reportedly attempted to flee during a checkpoint on the Martouni-Getap road. The drugs are believed to have been transported from Syunik. One of the two men arrested is Norayr Martoyan, assistant to the mayor of the greater Vardenis community, Aharon Khachatryan. Both the mayor and his assistant are reportedly members of the ruling Civil Contract party. Aharon Khachatryan ran in the 2022 municipal elections with his own alliance and had previously been a member of the Republican Party of Armenia before joining Civil Contract shortly after becoming mayor.

Former German intelligence chief August Hanning arrested for intelligence dealings with Azerbaijan

August Hanning, head of German intelligence from 1998 to 2005, was arrested on Tuesday, October 6. Suspected of espionage and attempted treason, he is under investigation for alleged ties to Azerbaijani intelligence services. Between March 2012 and March 2026, Hanning is said to have exchanged nearly 2,000 documents, including classified materials, concerning, among other things, the Iranian nuclear program and the Russian military. According to reports in Der Spiegel, the documents were intended for an Azerbaijani intelligence agent. Hanning held an official position in German-Azerbaijani relations until 2025. Baku has denied the accusations of links with the former head of German intelligence, with state media denouncing a "disinformation campaign" targeting Azerbaijan. These revelations are not exceptional on the German political scene, and more

Official pages of municipalities accused of relaying the campaign of the Civil Contract candidate

As the Araks Community Council elections approach, scheduled for October 25, 2026, the community's mayor, Ghazar Ghazaryan, head of the Civil Contract party list (Nikol Pashinyan's party), is at the center of a controversy regarding the use of several localities' Facebook pages. The official pages of Artimet and Metsamor shared Ghazaryan's campaign calendar and campaign videos. These pages, managed as part of municipal information, are intended to communicate information about community life and activities to residents, not to lobby for a candidate. It should be noted that the Armenian Electoral Code prohibits the use of financial, material, human, or informational resources belonging to the public administration when they aim to provide an electoral advantage. The chief of staff of the Araks municipality, Varsenik Vardanyan, stated that she was unaware of the dissemination.
