A new “Armath” engineering workshop has officially opened in Ranya, in Iraqi Kurdistan, creating new opportunities for local teenagers. It is the 18th “Armath” workshop established abroad. The international initiative was launched through cooperation between the Union of Advanced Technology Enterprises of Armenia (UATE) and Iraq’s Raparin Regional Development Agency (RRDA), with the support of the Consulate General of Armenia in Erbil. The opening ceremony was attended by Ruben Sogoyan, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Armenia to Iraq; Rafael Movsesyan, Acting Consul General of Armenia in Erbil; Kurdistan Region Deputy Prime Minister Qubad Talabani; “Armath” program head Sedrak Vardanyan; and other officials. Over the course of a week, a new team of local instructors underwent theoretical and practical training in programming and robotics, led by Armath instructor Armen Mkhoyan. “The international expansion of ‘Armath’ demonstrates that this Armenian engineering education model is competitive and in demand worldwide. Our goal is to create a new generation that not only uses modern technologies but also develops them,” said UATE Executive Director Edita Ghazaryan. The “Armath” Engineering Workshops program was established and developed in Armenia to promote STEM (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics) education. Currently, around 642 “Armath” workshops operate in Armenian public schools, providing free education to approximately 17,000 students. The program is implemented with the support of Armenia’s Ministry of Education, Science, Culture and Sports.
