The salary I receive is no longer sufficient to meet my previous needs: Deputy Mayor

Yerevan Deputy Mayor Suren Grigoryan is dissatisfied with the purchasing power of his current salary and believes that the remuneration of state and community officials should correspond to the work they do and the responsibility they bear.

It should be noted that the Yerevan Council of Elders today adopted a draft law on increasing the salaries of officials and community employees.

«Եթե նկատի ունեք այն գումարը, որը ես հիմա ստանում եմ, նույն գնողունակությունը և այն կարիքները, որոնք այդ աշխատավարձը փակում էր, օրինակ, երկու տարի առաջ կամ մի տարի առաջ, այսօր արդեն այդ կարիքները կա՛մ չի փակում, կա՛մ ավելի դժվարությամբ է փակում»,– ասաց

“If you mean the amount that I receive now, the same purchasing power and the needs that that salary covered, for example, two years ago or a year ago, today it either does not cover those needs or covers them with greater difficulty,” the deputy mayor said.

He pointed out that the size of the base salary is not clear enough to understand what the increase in the coefficient will lead to.

Mesrop Manukyan, a deputy of the National Assembly "Armenia" faction, former member of the Yerevan Council of Elders, had earlier announced that according to the new system for calculating officials' salaries, the mayor's salary will increase from 1,320,000 to 2,080,000 drams (an increase of 760,000 drams), for the first deputy mayor - from 1,020,000 to 1,913,600 drams (increase: 893,600 drams).
