March 2020, I had no more passengers,” recalled Daniel Ketchibachian, head of Aeropuertos Argentina, in a conversation with Infobae in which he reviewed his 26 years with the company and the challenges he faced leading the operation of 35 terminals across the country.

The conversation traced his history from when, at 18, he started working in the commercial area of Ezeiza Airport, to his current role as head of a company that is part of a group with 53 airports in six countries and is listed on the New York Stock Exchange.

—How did you end up working at airports without having dreamed of it as a child?

—My relationship with the airport began by chance.

When I finished high school, I knew I had to start working because I needed to support myself.

I sent my resume to several places, I remember to Coto as well, to be a cashier.

"I went to Armenia as commercial director to open the retail spaces at the country's new airport.

When I arrived, the bathrooms were literally latrines, because it was from the Soviet era.

In 2017, we decided to settle permanently in Argentina because raising a large family while living abroad all the time was very difficult."

"You took over as CEO in September 2019, and in March 2020, the pandemic hit.

What was that time like?"

"It was terrible.

We thought we were going to lose the company.

What we wanted to preserve first were jobs: that no one would lose their job.

—Today we have 2,800 people working.

Last year, 47 million passengers passed through Argentina's airports.

—What is the highest priority in the passenger experience today?

—We study the passenger extensively.

After the pandemic, we took the time to anticipate trends, and we call it hyper-personalization.

The idea is that each profile finds what they're looking for: the person with the highest purchasing power, a VIP lounge and a frictionless experience; the person with a tighter budget, products at a suitable price; And then there's the traveler who works during their trip, whom we call a workation, for whom we create workspaces.
