Hot summers, trout and wine – some things never change in Yerevan

One of the world’s oldest continuously populated cities, Yerevan turns 2,808 this weekend. In the 17th century, French merchant Jean-Baptiste Tavernier visited the city and produced an invaluable account of Yerevan at the time it was controlled by the Safavid Empire.
