"Pasd": Worries don't go away, quite the opposite

The newspaper “Pasd” writes: “Regarding the introduction of the new biometric system, the fact that the biometric data of citizens applying for passports will be at the disposal of a private company has caused serious public discontent and concerns.

The Ministry of Internal Affairs published a statement the day before yesterday, the meaning of which boils down to the fact that the “private partner” provides only the necessary technological infrastructure and security solutions for the system.

In short, the “private partner” is not given the authority to manage citizens’ data; the legal and technical framework for using citizens’ data is determined by the state.

Very well, we accepted it.

But this statement by the Ministry of Internal Affairs raises more questions.

First, if the private sector deals only with technical issues, then why are there so many “passport counters”?

After all, the employees of the passport counters used to do this work.

Why give it to the private sector?

What is the point of transferring this work to the private sector?

Whose newly minted oligarch will be the business?

How much will this cost the pockets of the citizens of Armenia?

Moreover, regardless of everything, people will submit documents and data to the “private partner” of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, all this data will pass through the hands of the private sector, will be stored in the infrastructure formed by the private sector.

In other words, almost the entire process will pass through the hands of the private sector.

Will all this information still not be archived by the private sector, will it not remain at its disposal?

And if the state will continue to perform the same functions, as the Ministry of Internal Affairs assures, then, let us repeat, let it continue to do so.

What is the problem?

Oh, and they also say that “the data of RA citizens has never been as protected as it will be from November 1.”

Is that so?

The state (the Ministry of Internal Affairs) says through its mouth that when the state itself was engaged in all this, the data of RA citizens were not particularly securely protected, and now they are incomparably protected?

Seriously?

In short, the “clarifications” of the Ministry of Internal Affairs did not actually dispel public concerns, but on the contrary, deepened them.

By the way, it is interesting what a sudden love for privatization the Pashinyan government has become.

The same government that arbitrarily takes away property from private owners, such as the Armenian Power Transmission Company and the Ararat Cement Plant, illegally seals the doors of private companies and is now delegating the issuance of passports to the private sector.

Oh, by the way, there are half-joking, half-serious proposals on social networks on this topic, for example, maybe transfer the functions of the government to the private sector?

And why not?

Although it has already been transferred, for eight years now both the government and other state structures have been at the will of one person.”
