"It happened regularly, but never to this extent, with her hands and a stick," explained the family member.

Since then, the child has not been attending school. Her family says she ran into her teacher by chance in the street yesterday and returned home terrified. Her mother does not wish to comment personally on the matter, as she does not want it to take a criminal turn, given the small size of the village.

The family has contacted the regional administration and claims to have received this response: for a teacher to be dismissed, at least seven parents must file complaints.

"So, if she hits four, five, or six children, it's not a big deal?" “Would she have to hit seven people to be held responsible?” a relative wondered.

The day after the incident, on October 1st, the case was reviewed in the principal’s office. The family said they were satisfied that at least a written warning had been issued to the teacher.

She had initially denied physically abusing the child. But after a video surfaced, she was reportedly no longer able to deny it.

The Ministry of the Interior indicated that the police had already forwarded the case file to the Investigative Committee, which has opened an investigation. The teacher and the school principal were at the investigative office today.

The principal, Gevorg Nersisyan, stated that the incident was unacceptable and that he himself was surprised that a teacher with 30 years of experience could have hit and mistreated a second-grade student.

Since September 1st, by order of the Minister of Education, all schools have had a student protection team, a professional group tasked, according to the official document, with preventing violence, bullying, and other risky situations.

Following the incident, the student protection team at the Vardadzor school met. But according to the child's family, no real steps were taken to help him return to school.

This is not the only case of violence against students reported during the first month of the new school year.

Two weeks ago, at the school in the village of Berdavan, in the Tavush region, a 13-year-old boy was allegedly slapped by his math teacher, pushed onto a table, and then hit on the head with a notebook, the edge of which reportedly struck his eye.

According to the teenager's mother, the teacher's wife, who is the school's deputy headmistress, also participated in the violence: she allegedly slapped and pushed the boy before taking him to her office and making him stand in a corner.

The mother, displaced from Artsakh and raising six children, has settled in the border village of Berdavan. She explains that she simply wants her son to be accepted at school: if he is disruptive or causes problems, she wants the teachers to work with him, but without hitting him.

This case has also taken a criminal turn. The teacher is being prosecuted under the article that criminalizes inflicting severe physical pain or serious psychological suffering on a minor.

He has been issued a travel ban and suspended from his duties.

The mother says she is still struggling with the situation, explaining that she doesn't want to cause any harm to anyone in her new home. The boy continues to attend school, but according to his mother, he remains stressed. The principal of Berdavan School, for his part, assures that the school does have a student protection team and that it is working very actively.
