In recent statements to Forbes Armenia, the CEO of Armenia International Airports, Marcelo Wende, confirmed that the annual passenger flow at Zvartnots has exceeded 5.5 million, despite the terminal's original design anticipating a maximum of 4 million. Wende admitted that "growth was much faster than expected. Over the next ten years, we will build a new terminal that will double the total available area."
The new terminal will feature 16 boarding gates, expanded immigration and customs control areas, as well as new waiting areas and a modern parking facility. Furthermore, a significant improvement in the airport's connectivity with public transportation is planned, facilitating access for travelers.
The goal of this expansion is clear: to transform Zvartnots into a competitive air hub connecting Europe and Asia. “We want Armenia to solidify its position as a bridge between the two continents. To achieve this, we are collaborating with the government to attract new airlines and establish new routes,” explained Wende.
