Correct with Positive Coercion or Turn to Denial or Where to Look for the Devil?

On Sunday, I was sitting scrolling through Facebook in the hope of finding something positive there, when I came across a video clip, which was an excerpt from a Palm Sunday sermon by a member of the Catholicosate of the Great House of Cilicia, apparently filmed during an incident that occurred at the Holy Mother of God Church in Bourj Hammoud.

Կիրակի օր, նստած կը թերթէի Ֆէյսպուքը այնտեղ դրական բան մը գտնելու յոյսով, երբ դէմս ելաւ տեսերիզ մը, որ Մեծի Տանն Կիլիկիոյ Կաթողիկոսութեան Միաբանի մը Ծաղկազարդի քարոզէն հատուած մըն է, որ ըստ երեւոյթին նկարահանուած է Պուրճ Համուտի Ս. Աստուածածին եկեղեցուոյ մէջ պատահած միջադէպի մը պահուն:

While in the attached video, His Eminence the Most Reverend Father was urging the faithful present to “have a living faith in the Living Savior,” one of the participants in the Liturgy interrupted the sermon. Addressing the Liturgist, he exclaimed loudly: “Do you say alive in front of the altar, ‘cor...’?”

Մինչ կցուած տետրիզին մէջ Հոգեշնորհ Ծայրագոյն Վարդապետը ներկայ հաւատացեալները կը յորդորէր «Կենդանի Փրկիչին հանդէպ կենդանի հաւատք ունենալ», այնտեղ Պատարագի մասնակիցներէն մէկը ընդմիջեց քարոզը: Ան խօսքը ուղղելով Պատարագիչին, բարձրաձայն բացագանչեց. «Խորանին առջեւ կենդանի՞ կ՛ըսես կոր...»:

Our compatriot of humble origin, apparently, interpreted the word “Living” as an animal, while the Liturgist naturally meant “Living,” who himself, in turn, interrupted his speech and tried to correct our compatriot’s misunderstanding.

Համեստ ծագում ունեցող մեր հայրենակիցը, ըստ երեւոյթին, «Կենդանի» բառը մեկնաբանած էր իբրեւ անասուն, մինչ Պատարագիչը բնականաբար նկատի ունէր «Ապրող», որ ինքն ալ իր կարգին իր խօսքը ընդմիջելով փորձեց ուղղել մեր հայրենակիցին սխալ ըմբռնումը:

I expected that His Holiness the Holy Father, who would be satisfied with his office and try to teach our flawed fellow countryman the truth by resorting to positive reinforcement. However, it is a pity that he resorted to public slander, presenting the poor man as a spokesman for the devil, who, according to the Priest, has neither an idea of God nor of the Holy Scripture, but by accepting the devil within himself, wanted to disrupt the (in reality, perhaps incomprehensible to the poor man) sermon....

Ակնկալութիւնս էր, որ Հոգեշնորհ Հայր Սուրբը և ի պաշտօնէ բաւարարուէր դրական հարկադրանքի դիմելով (positive reinforcement) ճիշտը սորվեցնել փորձէր թերուս մեր hայրենակիցին: Սակայն ափսոս, որ ան դիմեց հրապարակային պախարակումի, խեղճ մարդը ներկայացնելով իբրեւ սատանայի բանբեր, որ ըստ Վարդապետին, ան ո՛չ Աստուծմէ գաղափար ունի ո՛չ ալ Սուրբ Գիրքէն, այլ սատանան իր մէջ ընդունելով ուզեց խանգարել (իրականութեան մէջ խեղճ մարդուն համար գուցէ անհասկնալի) քարոզը...:

Although I do not claim to be the advocate of our humble Armenian son, it is worth making the following reflection here:

Մեր համեստ հայորդիին պաշտպան փաստաբանը ըլլալու հաւակնութիւնը չունենալով հանդերձ, այստեղ կ՛արժէ հետեւեալ խորհրդածութիւնը կատարել.

The ignorance of the person present in the church naturally does not necessarily have to do with having no idea of "God or the Holy Scripture", as the given religious person decided, but simply represents a state of not knowing the Armenian language and the elementary manners of being restrained in such moments. Here, it must be admitted with pain that our compatriot is not a unique phenomenon in his level of ignorance.

Եկեղեցիին մէջ ներկայ մարդուն տգիտութիւնը բնականաբար, անպայմանօրէն կապ չունի «Աստուծմէ կամ Սուրբ Գիրքէն» գաղափար չունենալու հետ, ինչպէս տուեալ կրօնականը վճռեց, այլ պարզապէս Հայերէն լեզու եւ նման պահերու մէջ զուսպ ըլլալու տարրական կենցաղավարութիւնը չիմանալու վիճակ մը կը ներկայացնէ ան: Այստեղ ցաւով պէտք է խոստովանիլ, որ իր այս մակարդակի տգիտութեան մէջ եզակի երեւոյթ մը չի հանդիսանար մեր հայրենակիցը:

As for who is responsible for this ignorance that still exists in a certain class of our people (not a small number), then this should be sought in the national/Armenian school, which has failed in its main mission, which is to

While not claiming to be the advocate for our humble Armenian son, it is worth making the following reflection here:

The ignorance of the person present in the church naturally has nothing to do with having no idea about “God or the Holy Scripture,” as the given religious leader decided, but rather simply represents a state of not knowing the Armenian language and the elementary manners of being restrained in such moments. Here, it must be admitted with pain that our compatriot is not a unique phenomenon in his level of ignorance.

And who is responsible for this ignorance that still exists among a certain segment of our people (not a small number), then this must be sought in the national/Armenian school, which has failed in its main mission, which is to teach the children of our nation Armenian or to impart elementary daily life or general education to those who have not yet graduated or graduated from primary school...

Իսկ թէ, ո՞վ է մեր ժողովուրդին (ոչ փոքրաթիւ) որոշ մէկ խաւին մէջ տակաւին գոյատեւող այս տգիտութեան պատասխանատուն, ապա սա պէտք է փնտռել ազգային/հայկական վարժարանին մէջ, որ ձախողած է իր հիմնական առաքելութեան մէջ, որն է՝ Հայերէն սորվեցնել մեր ազգին զաւակներուն կամ անոնցմէ թէկուզ թերաւարտին կամ նախակրթանաւարտին ջամբել տարրական կենցաղավարութիւն կամ ընդհանրապէս կրթութիւն...:

There is a danger of an even worse outcome. Such a loud and public insult by an Armenian clergyman to a believer can be the reason that the given Armenian child does not want to attend church or participate in the Holy Liturgy from now on...

Կայ աւելի եւս վատ արդիւնքի մը վտանգը: Հայ կրօնաւորին կողմէ հաւատացեալի մը հանդէպ գործադրուած նման բարձրաձայն եւ հրապարակային նախատանքը, կրնայ պատճառ հանդիսանալ, որ տուեալ հայորդին չուզէ յետայսու եկեղեցի յաճախել կամ Ս. Պատարագի մասնակից դառնալ...:

Finally, the question of questions is emphasized: Given this situation and the likely consequences that will result from it, where exactly should we look for the devil...?

Աւարտին կը շեշտուի հարցերուն՝ հարցը. Ի տես այս վիճակին ու անկէ բխելիք հաւանական հետեւանքին, մենք սատանան ճիշտ ո՞ւր պէտք է փնտռենք...:
