The number of political prisoners is growing every day. As long as the far-from-exhaustive list of names below may seem, I must immediately add a disclaimer: the list of those who, after 2018, declared their intention to fight the regime and then abandoned the race is much longer. As the Roman proverb goes, those who surrender always far outnumber those who are defeated. So, on our list, there are no surrendered people, no defeated ones; there are only those who continue the struggle and will ultimately win. As for those who have given up and dropped out of the race, joining the ranks of conformists, let them say that one should always side with the strong. Let them say they don't want to spit against the wind, let them not be searched in the morning...

Каким бы длинным не показался далеко не полный список приведенных ниже имен, сразу внесу оговорку: список тех, кто, сделав после 2018 г. заявку на борьбу с режимом, затем сошел с дистанции, гораздо длиннее. Как гласит римская пословица, сдавшихся всегда гораздо больше, чем побежденных. Так вот в нашем списке сдавшихся нет, нет и побежденных, есть только те, кто продолжает борьбу и в итоге победит. А те, кто сдался и сошел с дистанции, пополнив ряды конформистов, пусть говорят, что следует всегда быть на стороне сильного. Пусть говорят, что не хотят плевать против ветра, пусть к ним не приходят по утрам с обысками…

State Duma propaganda persistently hammers into the public consciousness the idea that the so-called "former" members are fighting only to preserve their fortunes. Unfortunately, this propaganda only partially achieves its goal: everyone believes what they find most convenient to believe. It's strange when opposition television channels echo the State Duma's propaganda, for example, by peddling the thesis about the cowardice of the Armenian people through their guests, and not only that...

Второй президент Роберт Кочарян в четвертый раз находится под арестом, зампредседателя РПА Армен Ашотян арестован по 2 кругу, более года лишен свободы лидер «Сильной Армении» Самвел Карапетян. Пропаганда ГД упорно вколачивает в массовое сознание тезис о том, что так называемые «бывшие» борются только за сохранение своих капиталов. Пропаганда, увы, частично достигает цели: каждый верит в то, во что ему удобнее верить. Странно, когда пропаганде ГД подпевают оппозиционные телеканалы, например, тиражируя устами своих гостей тезис о трусости армянского народа, и не только этот тезис…

An "ideological" basis was provided for the arrest of the former commander of the Artsakh Republic Defense Army, Mikael Arzumanyan. Pashinyan announced from the parliamentary rostrum that some generals during the 44-day war were not following his orders, but those of a "different General Staff" (referring to the Russian General Staff). The regime is attempting to blame the general, who served as commander only for the final 12 days of the war, for the failure in the southern front, including the surrender of Shushi and Hadrut.

Под арест бывшего командующего армии Обороны Республики Арцах Микаэла Арзуманяна была подведена «идейная» база. Пашинян объявил с трибуны парламента, что некоторые генералы во время 44-дневной войны выполняли не его приказы, а приказы «другого Генштаба» (подразумевается Генштаб РФ). Ashot Minasyan ("Ashot Yerkat"), commander of the legendary Sisakan unit during the First Artsakh Liberation War, has been persecuted since 2020. Immediately after the end of the 44-day war, he was accused of organizing (as part of a group) an assassination attempt on Pashinyan. That charge failed. Minasyan is currently under arrest on charges of illegal possession of weapons. We have written about this case repeatedly, revealing the baselessness of the charges.

Командира легендарного отряда «Сисакан» времен первой войны за освобождение Арцаха Ашота Минасяна («Ашот Еркат») преследуют с 2020 г. Сразу после завершения 44-дневной войны его обвинили в организации (в составе группы лиц) покушения на Пашиняна. То обвинение провалилось. В настоящее время Минасян находится под арестом по обвинению в незаконном хранении оружия. Об этом деле мы писали неоднократно, выявляя необоснованность предъявленного обвинения.

On September 23, after a lengthy period of detention, the well-known intelligence officer "Kandaz" (Artur Avanesyan), whose arrest was closely linked to the election campaign of the "Strong Armenia" bloc, was released under administrative supervision. Victims of political repression at various times included Albert Bazeyan, the commander of the Nikol Duman unit during the first war for the liberation of Artsakh, and Serop Gasparyan, the brother of Rustam Gasparyan, the commander of the Black Panther unit who died during the 44-day war in Artsakh. He was arrested on charges of plotting an armed coup in the Republic of Armenia. According to the prosecution, the plotting took place on the territory of a military base in the Russian Federation.

23 сентября после длительного заключения под административный надзор отпустили известного разведчика «Кандаза» (Артура Аванесяна), чей арест был тесно связан с избирательной кампанией блока «Сильная Армения». Жертвами политических репрессий в разное время стали командир отряда «Никол Думан» времен первой войны за освобождение Арцаха бывший мэр Еревана Альберт Базеян, а также брат погибшего во время 44-дневной войны в Арцахе командира отряда «Черная пантера» Рустама Гаспаряна Сероп Гаспарян. Его заключили под арест по обвинению в подготовке вооруженного захвата власти в РА. Подготовка, по версии обвинения, велась на территории одной из военных частей в РФ.

The list of military personnel subjected to repression could be extended with the names of former Deputy Chief of the General Staff, General Tiran Khachatryan, and former commander of the 3rd Army Corps, General Grigory Khachaturov. Among the first cohort of those repressed were Grigory's father, former Chief of the General Staff and Secretary of the CSTO, General Yuri Khachaturov, and former Minister of Defense, General Seyran Ohanyan.

The repression of Archbishops Bagrat Galstanyan and Mikael Ajapakhyan marks the beginning of Pashinyan's crusade against Holy Etchmiadzin. The case against Galstanyan and 17 other right-wingers is crumbling before our eyes. The charges of preparing and organizing terrorist attacks are thinly woven, and the public doesn't believe a word of the accusers.

Репрессии в отношении архиепископов Баграта Галстаняна и Микаэла Ачапахяна – это начало крестового похода Пашиняна на Святой Эчмиадзин. Дело Галстаняна и 17 правых в суде разваливается на глазах. Обвинение в подготовке и организации терактов шиты белыми нитками, общество не верит ни единому слову обвинителей.

The political nature of the persecution is supported by the fact that 16 "accomplices of terrorism" have been released, while only the archbishop and former mayor of Sisian, political prisoner Artur Sargsyan, a member of parliament from the Hayastan faction, remain under house arrest. He has been subjected to repression ever since Pashinyan received the collective "Syunik greetings." Since then, many Syunik leaders have retreated into the shadows or defected to the State Duma, while Sargsyan chose to continue the fight...

В пользу политического характера преследований говорит то обстоятельство, что на данный момент 16 «подельников терроризма» отпущены на свободу, под домашним арестом находятся только архиепископ и депутат парламента от фракции «Айастан» бывший мэр Сисиана политзаключенный Артур Саркисян. Он подвергается репрессиям еще с тех пор, когда Пашиняну послали коллективный «сюникский привет». С тех пор многие руководители Сюника ушли в тень или перебежали на сторону ГД, а Саркисян предпочел продолжить борьбу…

He was arrested after being elected as an MP, which is a gross violation of the law, as the Central Election Commission (CEC) was not authorized to approve his arrest after his election.

Pashinyan, through CEC Chairman Vahagn Hovakimyan, stole five mandates from Prosperous Armenia leader Gagik Tsarukyan, arrested him, and is currently expropriating his businesses.

У лидера ППА Гагика Царукяна Пашинян руками председателя ЦИК Ваагна Овакимяна украл 5 мандатов, заключил его под арест и в настоящее время экспроприирует его бизнесы.

Alik Aleksanyan, a close associate of S. Karapetyan, remains in custody. He, like Narek Karapetyan, the leader of the Strong Armenia faction, has been charged with organizing bribery during the election campaign. A similar charge of promising a bribe was brought against current MP David Ghazinyan during his arrest. Following the Vagharshapat City Council elections, Professor Khachik Galstyan, a member of the Hayrenik party, was arrested. The reason was that he gave money to members of the campaign staff to buy food. This circumstance was used to accuse him of bribery.

Под арестом остается ближайший соратник С. Карапетяна Алик Алексанян. Ему, как и руководителю фракции «Сильная Армения» Нареку Карапетяну, предъявлено обвинение в организации подкупа в ходе избирательной кампании. Схожее обвинение в обещании взятки было предъявлено в ходе ареста и ныне депутату от той же фракции Давиду Казиняну. По итогам выборов в совет Вагаршапата был арестован профессор член партии «Айреник» Хачик Галстян. Причиной послужило то, что он дал членам предвыборного штаба деньги на покупку еды. Этим обстоятельством воспользовались, чтобы обвинить его в даче предвыборной взятки.

The arrest of journalists Vazgen Saghatelyan and Narek Samsonyan preceded the arrest of former journalist and MP Areknaz Manukyan (recently released under house arrest). She is involved in the case against Mother Armenia party leader Andranik Tevanyan. He is charged with transferring state secrets (a translated document) for a large sum. Manukyan is accused of disclosing state secrets. Both cases have no prospect of prosecution.

Арест журналистов Вазгена Сагателяна и Нарека Самсоняна стал предтечей ареста бывшего журналиста и депутата Арекназ Манукян (недавно отпущена под домашний арест). Она проходит по делу лидера партии «Мать Армения» Андраника Теваняна. Ему предъявлено обвинение в передаче государственных секретов (переводной текст документа) за крупную сумму. Манукян обвиняют в обнародовании государственной тайны. Оба дела лишены судебной перспективы.

THE SCOPE OF A SINGLE PUBLICATION CANNOT CONTAIN ALL OF THESE WHO FALLEN VICTIM OF POLITICAL REPRESSION FOR EIGHT YEARS, YET DID NOT GIVE UP AND CONTINUE TO STILL BEING FIGHTED. Unfortunately, it's not in the tradition of modern Armenian journalism to speak well of people who don't break or cower in the face of threats and arrests, as political prisoner and former MP Martun Grigoryan, as well as recently released HayaQue coordinator Avetik Chalabyan and long-time imprisoned public figure Vahagn Chakhalyan, do.

РАМКИ ОДНОЙ ПУБЛИКАЦИИ НЕ СПОСОБНЫ ВМЕСТИТЬ ВСЕХ, КТО СТАЛ ЖЕРТВОЙ ПОЛИТИЧЕСКИХ РЕПРЕССИЙ на протяжении 8 лет, однако не опустил руки и сегодня продолжает борьбу. Увы, не в традициях современной армянской журналистики говорить хорошо о людях, которые не ломаются и не пасуют перед угрозами и арестами, как это делает политзаключенный бывший депутат Мартун Григорян, а также недавно вышедший на свободу координатор «АйаКве» Аветик Чалабян и проведший длительное время под арестом общественный деятель Ваагн Чахалян.

References to self-interest and financial gain are fashionable today, not only in the regime's propaganda, which portrays all of Pashinyan's political opponents as Moscow agents, FSB operatives, and so on, but also on opposition television channels. Today, only a few, at the risk of falling out of the general context of cynical assessments, speak publicly about people who embody an unbending will. These people have survived several arrests, witnessed the arrests of their family members, yet they have not given up and continue the fight.

Сегодня в моде ссылки на шкурный интерес и денежную выгоду, причем, не только в агитации режима, которая выставляет всех политических противников Пашиняна агентами Москвы, штатными сотрудниками ФСБ и проч., но и на оппозиционных телеканалах. Сегодня лишь единицы, рискуя выпасть из общего контекста циничных оценок, говорят публично о людях, которые являются олицетворением несгибаемой воли. Эти люди пережили несколько арестов, стали свидетелями арестов членов своей семьи, но с дистанции не сошли и продолжают борьбу.

It is unacceptable to break the collective will with arguments on an opposition television channel about the cowardice of Armenians! It is unacceptable to reduce the fight against the regime to an attempt to preserve personal property and capital! Only regime mouthpieces like Gnel Sargsyan can afford such a thing.

Недопустимо ломать коллективную волю рассуждениями в эфире оппозиционного телеканала о трусости армян! Недопустимо сводить борьбу с режимом к попытке сохранить личное имущество и капиталы! Такое могут позволить себе только рупоры режима а-ля Гнел Саркисян.

These mouthpieces, by their human nature, are incapable of understanding and accepting the obvious: if these people were only interested in their capital, they would not resist Pashinyan's policies, but would relax and enjoy themselves, like Samvel Aleksanyan and other "oligarchs of the dictator's heart." Or they could have kept their mouths shut, as the Nushikyans, Artak Dvina, and Artak SAS-a, as well as representatives of other influential clans whose accounts and property Pashinyan (for some reason) hasn't confiscated, are doing...

Эти рупоры по своей человеческой природе не способны понять и принять очевидное: если бы этих людей интересовали только их капиталы, то они не стали бы сопротивляться политике Пашиняна, а расслабились бы и получали удовольствие, как это делает Самвел Алексанян и другие «олигархи сердца» диктатора. Или молчали бы в тряпочку, как это делают Нушикяны, «Артак Двина» и «Артак SАS-а», а также представители других влиятельных кланов, у которых Пашинян (почему-то) не конфискует счета и имущество…

The recently formed Committee on Political Prisoners is unlikely to have any practical impact on the current situation. Pashinyan uses repression as his primary tool for suppressing dissent, but the fact that the topic of repression will be constantly on everyone's lips, and the new public structure will expose the political nature of the repressions, revealing the true reasons for searches, interrogations, and arrests, could mobilize thinking members of society. The truth about the repressions will help awaken those who believe that repressions won't affect their loved ones tomorrow, that an "emergency suitcase" won't appear in their hallway tomorrow...

Вряд ли на текущую ситуацию окажет практическое воздействие недавно сформированный Комитет по вопросам политзаключенных. Пашинян использует репрессии как главный инструмент подавления инакомыслия, но то, что тема репрессий будет постоянно у всех на слуху, а новая общественная структура будет показывать политический характер репрессий, вскрывая истинные причины обысков, допросов и арестов, может мобилизовать мыслящую часть общества. Правда о репрессиях поможет разбудить тех, кто полагает, что репрессии не коснутся завтра их родных и близких, что и в их прихожей не появится завтра «тревожный чемоданчик»…
