Turkey and Azerbaijan have signed a memorandum of cooperation in Ankara to expand joint work on diaspora issues, Turkish and Azerbaijani media reported. The document was signed by Fuad Muradov, chairman of the State Committee for Work with the Diaspora of Azerbaijan, and Abdulhadi Turus, director of the Presidency of Turks Living Abroad and Related Communities of Turkey (YTB), during the first Muslim Diaspora Conference held in Ankara.
The memorandum envisages the exchange of information and experience between the two organizations, mutual visits of delegations and the organization of joint programs, meetings and conferences. Muradov described the document as “up-to-date” and noted that it will lay the foundation for new joint projects. It is also planned to develop ties between Azerbaijani and Turkish diaspora organizations operating abroad.
The previous memorandum of cooperation in the field of diaspora was signed by the relevant authorities of Turkey and Azerbaijan in Ankara in 2018. The first conference of Muslim diasporas began in Ankara on September 8. It is attended by representatives of the bodies of the member states of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation dealing with diaspora issues.
