The article A decision has been made to collect as many weapons as possible was first published in the Armenian newspaper Vahan.

The Zhokhovurd newspaper writes:
“According to the Zhokhovurd newspaper, the law enforcement system has decided to collect, if possible, all weapons owned by former high-ranking officials. According to our sources, this includes weapons acquired legally and registered. The Ministry of Internal Affairs is filing cases against former officials, demanding that they hand over weapons received as gifts, awards, or even purchased ones to the state.
Zhokhovurd newspaper sources link this process to the recent intensification of actions against former officials. According to our information, there are concerns in the law enforcement system that politically motivated processes against the property and assets of former officials, which are already characterized as “dispossession” (deprivation of property), could create a risk of personal reprisals or vendettas. It is precisely to mitigate this risk that efforts are being made to minimize the possession of weapons by former officials.
It is noteworthy that the issue became particularly relevant after the search of the mansion of the former Chairman of the State Revenue Committee Gagik Khachatryan.
At the same time, the police of the Ministry of Internal Affairs have intensified their surveillance of the circulation of weapons and ammunition in recent months. According to official data, in the first half of 2026 alone, 1,293 weapons were seized from illegal circulation, of which 912 were surrendered voluntarily.
