The decision of the current leadership of Armenia to change the vector of development will not lead to anything good: Medvedev

Some states are trying to divide the countries of the South Caucasus, trying to “mix things up” there. An example of this is the offer of Georgia to join NATO, which did not lead to anything good, as well as attempts to test the strength of relations between Russia and Armenia. This was stated by the Deputy Chairman of the Security Council of the Russian Federation Dmitry Medvedev in an interview with the State Radio and Television of the Islamic Republic of Iran.

“As for the Caucasus, yes, individual states are now trying to mix things up there. They are trying to divide the countries of the South Caucasus. That is true. We are watching this process with caution,” he added.

Medvedev gave the situations related to Georgia and Armenia as an example. “Look: at first the Western world offered Georgia membership in NATO. Nothing good came of it. Georgia never became a member of NATO. Its current leadership understands that this was, apparently, the wrong approach. All this led to conflict. Now they are trying to test our relations with Armenia for strength,” he said.

According to Medvedev, the current leadership of Armenia considered it right to change the vector of the country’s development. “I am sure that this will not lead to anything good either. The worst thing that can happen to Armenia is for it to turn into a new Ukraine,” Medvedev said.
