Silvina Dicranian participated on behalf of the Armenian Genocide Memorial Foundation (FMGA) in the 13th Meeting of Libraries of Communities, held on Saturday, September 5th, at the Japanese Association in Argentina. It was the first time an Armenian institution had participated in this event.
Silvina Dicranian participó en representación de la Fundación Memoria del Genocidio Armenio (FMGA) del 13º Encuentro de Bibliotecas de Colectividades, realizado el sábado 5 de septiembre en la Asociación Japonesa en la Argentina. Fue la primera vez que una institución armenia estuvo presente en estas jornadas.
The activity was organized by the Basque Center “Euzko Etxea” of La Plata, the IWO Foundation – Jewish Research Institute – and the Japanese Association, as host.
La actividad fue organizada por el Centro Vasco “Euzko Etxea” de La Plata, la Fundación IWO -Instituto Judío de Investigación- y la Asociación Japonesa, como anfitriona.
Dicranian presented the exhibition “The Armenian Community in Argentina: History, Institutions, and Collections,” which traced the Armenian presence in the country, the origins of the diaspora following the Armenian Genocide perpetrated by the Ottoman Turkish state, and the development of its institutions.
Dicranian presentó la exposición “La colectividad armenia en la Argentina: historia, instituciones y colecciones”, con un recorrido por la presencia armenia en el país, el origen de la diáspora a partir del Genocidio Armenio perpetrado por el Estado turco otomano y el desarrollo de sus instituciones.
She also spoke about the Matenadaran in Yerevan, one of the world's great centers for the preservation of ancient manuscripts, and the Armenian schools in Argentina. to the Daghlian Library; to Diario ARMENIA; and to various projects related to the preservation and digitization of documents from its 95-year history, work carried out by Jorge Kazandjian, who directed the publication for 19 years. Regarding Diario ARMENIA, she noted that approximately 68% of its collection has already been digitized and that large-format scanners have been added to continue this process and allow for the reading of texts using optical character recognition (OCR).
También se refirió al Matenadarán de Ereván, uno de los grandes centros de conservación de manuscritos antiguos del mundo; a los colegios armenios de la Argentina; a la Biblioteca Daghlian; a Diario ARMENIA y a distintos trabajos vinculados con la preservación y digitalización de documentación de sus 95 años de historia, labor llevada adelante por Jorge Kazandjian quien dirigió el medio durante 19 años. En el caso del Diario, señaló que alrededor del 68% de su colección ya fue digitalizada y que se incorporaron escáneres de gran formato para continuar ese proceso y permitir la lectura de los textos mediante reconocimiento óptico de caracteres (OCR).
The presentation also included the work of the Armenian Genocide Memorial Foundation and its museum project.
La presentación incluyó además el trabajo de la Fundación Memoria del Genocidio Armenio y su proyecto de museo.
Silvina Dicranian holds a degree in Library and Information Science from the University of the Argentine Social Museum and is a graduate of the San Gregorio El Iluminador Educational Institute. For over twenty years, she has worked at the Library of the Argentine Association of Orthopedics and Traumatology, specializing in this discipline and dedicated to providing bibliographic support to professionals throughout the country.
Silvina Dicranian es licenciada en Bibliotecología y Documentación por la Universidad del Museo Social Argentino y egresada del Instituto Educativo San Gregorio El Iluminador. Desde hace más de veinte años trabaja en la Biblioteca de la Asociación Argentina de Ortopedia y Traumatología, especializada en esa disciplina y destinada a brindar apoyo bibliográfico a profesionales de todo el país.
The event brought together representatives from different communities with the aim of exchanging experiences on preservation, cataloging, digitization and access to collections linked to the memory of their communities.
La jornada reunió a representantes de distintas colectividades con el objetivo de intercambiar experiencias sobre preservación, catalogación, digitalización y acceso a colecciones vinculadas con la memoria de sus comunidades.
