While the US is not allowing the production of missiles for HIMARS, Poland is preparing to produce ammunition for its analogue - K239 HOMAR-K

Six months after signing the localization contract, Poland began preparing a site for the production of missiles for the K239 HOMAR-K MLRS.

Back in 2023, Poland received the first South Korean K239 Chunmoo MLRS, which received the local name HOMAR-K. And now they have finally moved on to the process of starting the construction of a missile production plant for them, while the US does not give permission to localize the production of ammunition for HIMARS.

As reported by South Korean Hawnha Aerospace, the relevant preliminary work has begun at the Gorzów Wielkopolski site. This involves preparing the site and performing earthworks.

It is noted that the construction itself will last several months. The enterprise will belong to the Polish-Korean consortium Hanwha WB Advanced System and will be engaged in the production of CGR-080 rockets.

From Defense Express, we note that this is a big step for both countries, because Poland will gain the opportunity to independently produce ammunition. The local industry will also receive development, which will gain new contracts and work skills.

South Korea will receive the first European production of its rockets, which can be used to further promote K239 in the region. So far, Norway and Estonia have already chosen Chunmoo from Europe. This also gives it an advantage over the American HIMARS, whose ammunition the US refuses to localize in Poland.

The contract for the deployment of ammunition production for HOMAR-K in Poland was signed in December 2025. That is, it took another six months to move on to the construction of the plant itself, but this is expected, given the need to resolve formalities and prepare.

At the same time, even if the enterprise is completed in a year, according to the currently known schedule, ammunition supplies will begin only in 2030. The first order will be received by 2033.

Recall that the CGR-080 missiles, which are first localized, have a caliber of 239 mm and a range of 80 km, acting as an analogue of the American GMLRS. At the same time, it is possible to equip them with both conventional high-explosive fragmentation and cluster warheads.
