Berlin criticizes closure of two German foundations in Georgia

The German government has criticized the closure of the Konrad Adenauer and Friedrich Naumann Foundations in Tbilisi, calling it a loss for Georgia and the country's civil society.

German Foreign Ministry spokesman Martin Giese said the foundations had contributed to the development of democracy and civil society in Georgia for years, and Berlin told the Georgian authorities that it did not understand the reasons for their decisions.
