On the occasion of the National Day Against Domestic Violence, a candlelight vigil was held at Swan Lake in Yerevan in memory of the victims. Government officials and activists joined together to promote legal reforms that would strengthen criminal penalties against perpetrators.

Con motivo del Día Nacional de Lucha contra la Violencia Doméstica, el Lago de los Cisnes en Ereván fue escenario de una vigilia con velas en memoria de las víctimas. Por lo tanto, autoridades gubernamentales y activistas se unieron para impulsar reformas legales que endurezcan las sanciones penales contra los agresores.

The commemoration was organized by the Coalition Against Violence Against Women, an organization founded in 2010 following the femicide of Zaruhi Petrosyan. The organization's president, Nairuhi Safaryan, also warned that most crimes occur in the victim's own home.

La conmemoración fue organizada por la Coalición contra la Violencia hacia las Mujeres, entidad nacida en 2010 tras el feminicidio de Zaruhi Petrosyan. Asimismo, la presidenta de la organización, Nairuhi Safaryan, advirtió que la mayoría de los crímenes ocurren en el propio entorno residencial de la víctima.

Safaryan detailed that coalition reports tally dozens of deaths in the last decade, although there is a significant number of unreported cases. Consequently, the activist stated: “Most of the murders are committed by the current or former husband or partner. I want to emphasize that the majority of these murders occurred in the woman's home, where she resides.”

Safaryan detalló que los informes de la coalición contabilizan decenas de muertes en la última década, aunque existe una cifra negra no registrada. En consecuencia, la activista declaró la frase: “La mayoría de los asesinatos son cometidos por el esposo o pareja actual o anterior. The Minister of the Interior, Arpine Sargsyan, explained that the increase in reported cases reflects greater institutional trust and not an increase in actual cases. Therefore, the government is promoting a legislative package to classify gender-based violence as a separate crime and allow for its prosecution ex officio.

The Minister of Labor and Social Welfare, Arsen Torosyan, emphasized women's financial autonomy as a key factor in breaking the cycle of abuse. For her part, the Minister of Health, Anahit Avanesyan, urged the education of boys based on values of equality and respect.

The Prime Minister's wife, Anna Hakobyan, is leading a public campaign aimed at raising awareness and breaking the social silence surrounding the issue. As a result, Hakobyan emphasized that citizens are more readily turning to law enforcement for effective protection.
