U.S. Deputy Secretary of State for Democracy, Human Rights and Labor Riley Barnes visited Matenadaran and explored Armenia’s manuscript heritage. He toured the museum accompanied by Matenadaran Director Ara Khzmalyan. Special exhibitions were organized for the senior U.S. official, featuring masterpieces of Armenian manuscript art, ancient examples from Matenadaran’s cartographic heritage, as well as results of the “Restoration and Promotion of Manuscript Heritage Created in Nagorno-Karabakh” project, implemented with support from the U.S. Ambassadors Fund for Cultural Preservation. At the end of the visit, Riley Barnes left the following message in Matenadaran’s guest book: “What a wonderful visit to a historic place that I will never forget! Thank you for preserving the amazing millennia-old history of Armenia and the world. We are indebted to you.”
