Breast Cancer Awareness Month has begun in Armenia. Health Minister Anahit Avanesyan presented figures on early detection of the disease and the state-funded treatment program. An improvement has been recorded in the early detection of breast cancer. “In recent years, Armenia has seen significant progress in detecting the disease at earlier stages. Between 2018 and 2024, the share of cases detected at stages I–III increased from 60% to 87%. At the same time, the number of cases detected at stage IV decreased from 454 to 209. “In 2025, 1,478 new cases were recorded in Armenia. Although the number of new cases decreased by 9.5% compared with the previous year, disease prevention and early detection continue to require consistent efforts. “The state also continues to ensure access to targeted breast cancer treatment. “Under the state-funded trastuzumab program, which has been operating since 2020, 1,277 patients have received treatment over the past five years. Currently, 208 patients are receiving treatment under the program. “From 2020 to 2025, 4.1 billion drams were allocated to the program from the state budget, while another 670 million drams is planned for 2026 to provide treatment for 210 patients. “Early detection can be crucial in cases of breast cancer. I encourage women not to postpone medical examinations and necessary tests and to follow specialists’ recommendations,” she said.
