A delegation from the European Commission is discussing the prospects of the "Zangezur corridor" with Azerbaijan in Nakhichevan.

A delegation from the European Commission, led by Adrienne Kiraly, Director for Eastern Neighbourhood and Turkey at the Directorate-General for Enlargement and Eastern Neighbourhood Policy, visited Nakhchivan. There, they discussed the prospects for developing transport and energy projects in the region with Azerbaijan, according to Azerbaijani media.

Une délégation de la Commission européenne, conduite par Adrienne Kiraly, directrice pour le voisinage oriental et la Turquie à la Direction générale de lélargissement et de la politique de voisinage oriental, sest rendue à Nakhitchevan. Elle y a discuté des perspectives de développement des projets de transport et dénergie dans la région avec la partie azerbaïdjanaise, selon les médias azerbaïdjanais.

The delegation was received by Jeyhun Jalilov, the Plenipotentiary Representative of the President of Azerbaijan in Nakhchivan. During the meeting, the parties discussed the development of relations between Azerbaijan and the European Union, as well as opportunities for expanding economic cooperation.

La délégation a été reçue par Jeyhun Jalilov, représentant plénipotentiaire du président de lAzerbaïdjan à Nakhitchevan. Au cours de la réunion, les parties ont évoqué le développement des relations entre lAzerbaïdjan et lUnion européenne, ainsi que les possibilités dexpansion de la coopération économique.

Particular attention was paid to the transport potential of Nakhchivan and the "Zangezur Corridor." Jalilov stated that Nakhchivan holds strategic importance as a region situated at the crossroads of East-West and North-South transport routes.

Une attention particulière a été portée au potentiel de transport de Nakhitchevan et au « corridor de Zangezour ». Jalilov a déclaré que le Nakhitchevan revêt une importance stratégique en tant que région située au carrefour des axes de transport Est-Ouest et Nord-Sud.

The representative of the Azerbaijani president mentioned the TRIPP project, which Baku considers a key element in developing regional transport links. According to the Azerbaijani side, the implementation of this project will connect Nakhchivan to the rest of Azerbaijan by land.

Le représentant du président azerbaïdjanais a évoqué le projet TRIPP, que Bakou considère comme un élément clé du développement des liaisons de transport régionales. Selon la partie azerbaïdjanaise, la mise en œuvre de ce projet permettra de relier le Nakhitchevan par voie terrestre au reste de lAzerbaïdjan.

During the meeting, it was also announced that the planned railway line would connect Nakhchivan to Turkey. The Azerbaijani side linked the prospects for operating these transport routes to the signing of a peace treaty between Azerbaijan and Armenia, stating that this would create new opportunities for developing regional communications and enhance their economic importance.

Au cours de la réunion, il a également été annoncé que la ligne ferroviaire prévue relierait le Nakhitchevan à la Turquie. La partie azerbaïdjanaise a lié les perspectives dexploitation de ces voies de transport à la signature dun traité de paix entre lAzerbaïdjan et lArménie, affirmant que cela créerait de nouvelles opportunités pour le développement des communications régionales et renforcerait leur importance économique.

The parties also discussed Nakhchivan's energy potential. The Azerbaijani side presented renewable energy projects, including the construction of the Tivin and Ordubad hydroelectric power plants.

Les parties ont également discuté du potentiel énergétique du Nakhitchevan. La partie azerbaïdjanaise a présenté des projets dénergies renouvelables, notamment la construction des centrales hydroélectriques de Tivin et dOrdubad.

Furthermore, the possibility of connecting Nakhchivan's energy infrastructure to the Jabrayil energy hub was discussed. As announced by Baku, this connection will allow the region to export electricity produced to Turkey and then to broader energy markets.

The European delegation also included Elisabetta Falchetti, Executive Director for Turkey and the Caucasus at the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD). She presented the financing prospects for infrastructure projects, particularly through preferential loans.

La délégation européenne comprenait également Elisabetta Falchetti, directrice exécutive pour la Turquie et le Caucase de la Banque européenne pour la reconstruction et le développement (BERD). Elle a présenté les perspectives de financement des projets dinfrastructure, notamment par le biais de prêts à taux préférentiels.

Following the meeting, the parties discussed the economic aspects of the projects that the European Commission plans to implement in the region in the coming years, as well as the future development of cooperation.

À lissue de la réunion, les parties ont discuté des aspects économiques des projets que la Commission européenne envisage de mettre en œuvre dans la région au cours des prochaines années, ainsi que du développement futur de la coopération.
