Deputies of the ninth State Duma of the Russian Federation elected Vyacheslav Volodin as the Speaker of the State Duma at the first plenary session. He became the Speaker of the lower house of parliament for the third time in a row.

Vyacheslav Volodin has held the position of Speaker of the State Duma since 2016. Previously, he was the Speaker of the State Duma of the seventh and eighth convocations. In the last elections, he was elected as a State Duma deputy from the Saratov constituency as a single-mandate candidate.
