"Demand for liquefied gas has increased by 10-15%" – will there be a shortage?

He stated that despite the increase in the number of gas-powered vehicles, the sector has the resources to meet existing demand, and no shortage is currently expected.

According to Nika Khoperia, the price of liquefied natural gas is currently around 1.65 GEL and, despite small fluctuations of up to five times, is considered stable. He believes that the main factor driving price increases is seasonality, although problems in the Russian oil refining industry are also having an additional impact.

It has now peaked, but we don't expect further price increases yet."

Prices are also affected by problems in the Russian oil refining industry, but the main factor is seasonality. Looking at the same period last year, the price was the same.

"As for demand, the number of vehicles running on liquefied natural gas has been growing consistently since 2017. Now, this growth has accelerated even more as prices for traditional fuels rise. The sector is coping with this growth and will continue to cope with it in the future; it is prepared for it," says Nikoloz Khoperia.

After all, everything is reflected in price, and since similar problems exist with gasoline and diesel (the price is very high), naturally, this year's use of liquefied gas has increased even more, by approximately 10-15%, compared to the same period last year," says Nikoloz Khoperia.

When asked whether the increase in demand would impact prices, the head of the Association of Liquefied Gas Producers answered in the negative.

The increase in demand is also confirmed by the increase in liquefied propane imports. Specifically, according to Geostat, while the country purchased 22,972 thousand tons of gas from January to August 2025 for $8.628 million (one liter without taxes costs 0.38 cents), this year's import volume was $21.354 million, representing 36.621 tons (one liter costs 0.58 cents). Consequently, liquefied propane imports to Georgia have increased in price by an average of 52.6% this year.

As for passenger cars, the number of gasoline-powered vehicles in Georgia has increased by 48.1% over the past five years. According to the "Environmental Indicators of Transport" data published by the National Statistical Service of Georgia and processed by BusinessPressNews, 192,100 gasoline-powered vehicles were registered in the country in 2025, compared to 129,700 in 2020.
