Demand for space launches in Europe will increase almost sixfold by 2034

The European Union will need a total of 62 space launches by 2034 to support its satellite programmes, with the demand for launches in Europe set to increase by almost six times compared to current levels, European Commissioner for Defence and Space Andrius Kubilius said at the EU Access to Space conference in Brussels.

“For the European Union alone, we will need 62 launches by 2034,” Kubilius was quoted as saying by Euractiv.

The launches will be needed for the EU’s Galileo navigation programme, Copernicus Earth observation programme, IRIS² secure satellite communications and the planned new government surveillance programme.
