Statement from the Armenian Alliance on the arrest of Robert Kocharyan by the Nikol Pashinyan regime: “The current government is trying to deepen the atmosphere of fear in society.”

"The illegal actions taken against the second president of the Republic of Armenia, leader of the 'Armenia' bloc, Robert Kocharyan, and his family are yet another cynical manifestation of a regime that has lost legitimacy and maintains its power solely through illegal means," the alliance stated.

“Las acciones ilegales emprendidas contra el segundo presidente de la República de Armenia, líder del bloque ‘Armenia’, Robert Kocharyan, y sus familiares son otra manifestación cínica de un régimen que ha perdido legitimidad y mantiene su poder exclusivamente a través de ilegalidades”, afirmó la alianza.

The statement maintained that the operation does not follow a regular judicial process, but rather constitutes the use of the state apparatus for political ends.

El comunicado sostuvo que el operativo no responde a un proceso judicial ordinario, sino a una utilización del aparato estatal con fines políticos.

"This is not a legal process: it is the blatant subjugation of the state apparatus to the political fears and vengeance of a single individual," it asserted.

“Esto no es un proceso legal: es la flagrante subyugación del aparato estatal a los temores políticos y la venganza de una sola persona”, señaló.

The Armenian Alliance linked the actions against Kocharyan and his family to statements made the previous day by Pashinyan from the parliamentary podium during the debate on the 2026-2031 government program in the National Assembly.

La alianza Armenia vinculó las acciones contra Kocharyan y su familia con las declaraciones realizadas el día anterior por Pashinyan desde la tribuna parlamentaria, durante el debate del programa de Gobierno 2026-2031 en la Asamblea Nacional.

“The vigorous campaigns that immediately followed the threats made from the parliamentary podium demonstrate one thing: the ruling regime, accepting all external coercion, has adopted a policy of isolating the opposition and destroying any potential centers of resistance,” the statement said.

“Las enérgicas campañas que siguieron inmediatamente a las amenazas proferidas desde la tribuna parlamentaria demuestran una cosa: el régimen gobernante, aceptando toda coerción externa, ha adoptado una política de aislamiento de la oposición y destrucción de cualquier posible foco de resistencia”, expresó.

According to the statement, the government is also seeking to deepen the climate of fear within Armenian society. “By staging cheap spectacles for its own electorate, the current government is also trying to deepen the atmosphere of fear in society,” it asserted.

Según la declaración, el gobierno busca además profundizar el clima de temor dentro de la sociedad armenia. “Al organizar espectáculos baratos para su propio electorado, el gobierno actual también está tratando de profundizar la atmósfera de miedo en la sociedad”, afirmó.

The opposition alliance maintained that it will not accept pressure or legal persecution against its leaders. “It is useless to speak to us in the language of blackmail, illegal procedures, and fabricated persecutions,” he declared. “Neither President Kocharyan, nor his family, nor our political team can be repressed or forced to accept the current situation,” he added.

La alianza opositora sostuvo que no aceptará presiones ni persecuciones judiciales contra sus dirigentes. Es inútil hablarnos en el lenguaje del chantaje, los procedimientos ilegales y las persecuciones fabricadas”, declaró. “Ni el presidente Kocharyan, ni su familia, ni nuestro equipo político pueden ser reprimidos ni obligados a aceptar la situación actual”, agregó.

The statement concluded with a call to continue the political struggle against the Pashinyan government and against further concessions imposed on Armenia. “We will continue our struggle and do everything possible to resist the new concessions being imposed on Armenia,” the Armenian Alliance asserted. “No dictatorship lasts forever, and the authors and perpetrators of these unlawful acts will be held accountable,” it concluded.

La declaración concluyó con un llamado a continuar la lucha política frente al gobierno de Pashinyan y contra nuevas concesiones impuestas a Armenia. “Continuaremos nuestra lucha y haremos todo lo posible por resistir las nuevas concesiones que se imponen a Armenia”, sostuvo la alianza Armenia. “Ninguna dictadura dura para siempre, y los autores y perpetradores de los actos ilícitos tendrán que rendir cuentas”, concluyó.
