According to one of the visitors, they learned about the improvement project by chance in September of this year. After getting acquainted with the project, they sent a letter to Mayor Tigran Avinyan, which was signed by more than 220 people in two days.

Այցելուներից մեկի խոսքով՝ բարեկարգման ծրագրի մասին իրենք տեղեկացել են պատահաբար՝ այս տարվա սեպտեմբերին։ Ծրագրին ծանոթանալուց հետո քաղաքապետ Տիգրան Ավինյանին ուղղված նամակ են հղել, որը երկու օրում ստորագրել է ավելի քան 220 մարդ։

"One of the main points of the request was not to touch these reeds, because it is planned that all the reeds will be destroyed, torn out and replaced with white sand, making a beach, which, of course, is an absurd plan, because these reeds form the main filter of the Salt Lake, the basis of the ecosystem," says visitor Maya Afrikyan.

According to him, the reeds are not only important for the lake's ecosystem, but also play a role in retaining water and protecting the area from rocks falling from above. Visitors are not against the improvement, but they believe that it should be limited to light, cosmetic work and not harm the natural environment of the lake.

Նրա խոսքով՝ եղեգնուտները ոչ միայն կարևոր են լճի էկոհամակարգի համար, այլև ջուրը պահելու և վերևից թափվող քարերից տարածքը պաշտպանելու դեր ունեն։ Այցելուները դեմ չեն բարեկարգմանը, սակայն կարծում են՝ այն պետք է սահմանափակվի թեթև, կոսմետիկ աշխատանքներով և չվնասի լճի բնական միջավայրը։

The main complaints of visitors are the garbage accumulated in the area and the lack of toilets. According to the visitor, these problems can be solved by installing small umbrellas, but they do not consider destroying the reeds an acceptable option for improvement.

Այցելուների հիմնական դժգոհություններից են տարածքում կուտակված աղբը և զուգարանների բացակայությունը։ Այցելուի խոսքով՝ կարելի է լուծել այդ խնդիրները, տեղադրել փոքրիկ հովանոցներ, սակայն եղեգնուտները ոչնչացնելը բարեկարգման ընդունելի տարբերակ չեն համարում։

One of the visitors to the lake, Artur Khanjyan, says that since July 2020, when they began paving the shores of the Salt Lake, he and other visitors have been improving the area with their own funds.

According to him, in 2021, they applied to the Ministry of Environment, proposing to include the area in the list of natural monuments as a water monument. Khanjyan says that he received a positive response from the ministry, but the issue of the status of the area has not yet been resolved.

“We were not aware of any project. They brought me, showed me some project. In other words, no issues were discussed with the people,” Artur Khanjyan notes indignantly.

According to another visitor, the demolition work on the reed beds has already begun. He calls on the Prime Minister to pay attention to other problems in the area, such as garbage heaps and soil accumulated above. According to him, if there is a concern that the soil or stones may collapse and endanger people, reinforcement work can be carried out without destroying the reed beds.

Մեկ այլ այցելուի պնդմամբ՝ եղեգնուտների քանդման աշխատանքներն արդեն սկսվել են։ Նա վարչապետին կոչ է անում ուշադրություն դարձնել նաև տարածքի մյուս խնդիրներին՝ աղբակույտերին և վերևում կուտակված հողին։ Նրա խոսքով՝ եթե մտահոգություն կա, որ հողը կամ քարերը կարող են փլուզվել և վտանգել մարդկանց, կարելի է իրականացնել ամրացման աշխատանքներ՝ առանց եղեգնուտները ոչնչացնելու։

The visitor also notes that wild ducks periodically live in the lake, and the reed beds are part of their natural habitat.

Այցելուն նաև նշում է, որ լճում պարբերաբար վայրի բադեր են բնակվում, իսկ եղեգնուտները նրանց բնական միջավայրի մասն են։

According to our interlocutor, Maya, one of the visitors protesting against the improvement works in the area, tried to prevent the demolition of the reed beds from continuing today by standing in front of the equipment carrying out the work.

Տարածքում բարեկարգման աշխատանքների դեմ բողոքող այցելուներից Մայան, ըստ մեր զրուցակցի, այսօր փորձել է թույլ չտալ եղեգնուտների քանդման շարունակությունը՝ կանգնելով աշխատանքներ իրականացնող տեխնիկայի դիմաց։

Visitors demand that the improvement works be carried out without harming the natural ecosystem of the lake, that the reed beds be preserved, and that residents and visitors be involved in discussions on the further development of the area.

It should be noted that on September 14, at the Yerevan Municipality’s administrative session, it was reported that the area adjacent to the Salt Lake in Yerevan will be improved and will have a new look. Tenders for the procurement of construction works and technical supervision for the improvement of the area have already been held, and are now in the stage of signing contracts.

“It is planned to implement the construction of a parking lot, an outdoor lighting system, water supply and sewage systems, showers and toilets, and a sports field equipped with exercise equipment. We plan to start the work by the end of this week,” Andranik Tevosyan, Acting Head of the Construction and Improvement Department of the Municipality’s staff, said at the administrative session.
