Armenia and Iran are discussing a railway line crossing the Syunik province and their participation in the North-South corridor

Armenian Ambassador to Iran Grigor Hakobyan emphasized the need to strengthen and expand cooperation between Tehran and Yerevan in the railway and trade sectors, Mehr reports.

Connecting the two countries' railway networks would give Armenia access to international waterways in the south and diversify Iran's routes to Europe, he stressed.

Mr. Hakobyan made these remarks during a meeting with Jabar Ali Zakeri, Iran's Deputy Minister of Roads and Urban Development and CEO of Iranian Railways. The two sides discussed railway infrastructure in Iran and Armenia, as well as opportunities to expand regional transport links and economic relations. Mr. Zakeri emphasized the need for Armenia’s increased participation in regional transit routes, particularly the North-South International Transport Corridor, stating that Armenia could contribute to boosting regional rail transit.

Les deux parties ont discuté des infrastructures ferroviaires de l’Iran et de l’Arménie, ainsi que des opportunités d’élargissement des liaisons régionales en matière de transport et des relations économiques. M. Zakeri a souligné la nécessité d’une participation accrue de l’Arménie aux axes de transit régionaux, en particulier au corridor international de transport Nord-Sud, affirmant que l’Arménie pouvait contribuer à dynamiser le transit ferroviaire régional.

The rail link between Iran and Armenia, passing through Armenia’s Syunik Province, is among the infrastructure projects undertaken by Tehran and Yerevan to develop regional trade and transit. For Armenia, the rail link with Iran can open new opportunities for international transport routes and access to southern ports. For Iran, Armenia’s participation offers an additional land-based connection option to Europe.

La liaison ferroviaire entre l’Iran et l’Arménie, passant par la province arménienne du Syunik, figure parmi les projets d’infrastructure menés par Téhéran et Erevan pour développer le commerce et le transit régional. Pour l’Arménie, la liaison ferroviaire avec l’Iran peut ouvrir de nouvelles perspectives en matière d’axes de transport internationaux et d’accès aux ports du sud. Pour l’Iran, la participation de l’Arménie offre une option supplémentaire de communication terrestre vers l’Europe.

These discussions are part of ongoing efforts to develop transport links between the two countries and strengthen Armenia’s role in regional transit.
