US will not be able to open the Strait of Hormuz if Iran does not meet its conditions: Iranian Parliament Speaker

The Speaker of the Iranian Parliament and the head of the negotiating team, Mohammad-Bagher Ghalibaf, has stated that the United States will not be able to open the Strait of Hormuz until it fulfills the conditions presented by Iran.

“Until the conditions are fulfilled, the legitimate rights of the Iranian people are not recognized, and the obligations assumed by the United States are not fulfilled, there will be no opportunity to return to the previous conditions of the negotiations and open the Strait of Hormuz,” he was quoted as saying by IRIB.

Secretary of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council, Mohsen Rezaei, had earlier stated that Tehran had presented Washington with seven conditions to start a dialogue.

On August 20, US President Donald Trump announced the launch of economic action against Iran, which, according to him, implies isolation on an unprecedented scale. Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi considered his statements a manifestation of recognition of defeat in the conflict.
