Buckingham Palace has strongly denied the claim made by Princess Diana's brother

In a new book, Spencer recounts the events following Diana's death in a car crash in Paris in 1997. He claims he argued with then-Prince Charles over Prince William and Prince Harry's decision to walk behind Diana's coffin at her funeral.

Spencer said he told Charles that Diana would not have wanted her sons, aged 15 and 12, to go through the ordeal. He claims Charles told him: "You can be sure we will soon forget her."

Buckingham Palace said Charles III recognises that the pain of losing his brother can affect his memories and judgement years later. Spencer's book, Swan Song: Diana, My Sister, is due to be published next week.
