US used AI to prepare for attack on Minab school: Bloomberg

According to Bloomberg, officials involved in the investigation said that the incident was not the result of a single mistake, but rather a series of lapses. The time for final confirmation of targets was reduced in the conditions of the large-scale attack demanded by the US administration. Reductions in civil protection staff and gaps in information about the target were also cited as factors.

The Minab site was previously considered a military complex, but years ago it was converted and operated as a school. Satellite images showed walls and entrances separating the school from the military base. The officials said some U.S. intelligence analysts had noticed the changes, but the information had not been entered into the main targeting database.

The officials also said some CENTCOM employees had placed too much trust in Palantir’s “Maven Smart System.” Palantir has denied that its software was to blame for the strike. A U.N. fact-finding mission said the U.S. had failed to take all necessary steps to verify the military target. The Pentagon said the investigation was ongoing.
