An arrest warrant for former Armenian State Revenue Committee (SRC) Chairman Gagik Khachatryan was officially issued on September 1, 2026, leading to his prompt arrest later that same day. Armenia's Investigative Committee (IC) initiated the arrest as part of an expansive, large-scale investigation into bribery and money laundering. Alongside the warrant, law enforcement authorities executed searches of the apartments of Khachatryan and his son, as well as across the offices and branches of twenty-one companies affiliated with his family. Following his detention, investigators confirmed that Khachatryan will remain in custody pending a formal court appearance. Khachatryan, who previously served as Armenias Finance Minister, has faced long-standing international scrutiny. In July 2024, the U.S. Department of Justice finalized a settlement to forfeit a US$60+ million Los Angeles mega-mansion belonging to his family, which U.S. prosecutors argued was purchased using a $20 million bribe from an Armenian businessman.
